    Hi Ho Kurt

    http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...a212252D92.DTL

Kurt Vonnegut, the satirical novelist who captured the absurdity of war and questioned the advances of science in darkly humorous works such as "Slaughterhouse-Five" and "Cat's Cradle," died Wednesday. He was 84.

Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before," Bokonon tells us. "He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way.

    Re: Hi Ho Kurt

Was just about to post this.

Thanks for helping me through High School Mr. Vonnegut. I may not have survived without you.
School's out. What did you expect?

One of my all time favorites.

What an interesting life he led.

    RIP, Kurt.

    Re: Hi Ho Kurt

The first time I read Slaughterhouse-five, I was done in less than a day.
I read it again the next day.
    And the next.

May he and Billy Pilgrim rest in peace. Then again, maybe they are both just jumping through time.

Vonnegut was my favorite author. I loved his quirkiness and the way it gave new views of this crazy mixed up world we occupy.

Any truth that he died of Ice-Nine exposure?

Mr. Vonnegut spoke at KU while I was a student. "Be kind to your knees" is sage advice. RIP Kurt.

I had a steady diet of Vonnegut in my early twenties and came to the conclusion that if his writing were required reading in every high school, we'd have far more succcess at teaching our kids to be intellectually curious.

Again, I ask....why did I have to read The PEARL instead?

Breakfast of Champions still might be my favorite book of all time.

    No "wear sunscreen"?

He'll be missed but his books will live on. He was the first author that I remember connecting wit, humor, prose, and humanity. His books made a difference in my early adulthood.

    Bokonon Last Rites

    God made mud.
    God got lonesome.
So God said to some of the mud, "Sit up!"
"See all I've made," said God, "the hills, the sea, the sky, the stars."
And I was some of the mud that got to sit up and look around.
    Lucky me, lucky mud.
I, mud, sat up and saw what a nice job God had done.
    Nice going, God.
Nobody but you could have done it, God! I certainly couldn't have.
I feel very unimportant compared to You.
The only way I can feel the least bit important is to think of all the mud that didn't even get to sit up and look around.
I got so much, and most mud got so little.
    Thank you for the honor!
Now mud lies down again and goes to sleep.
What memories for mud to have!
What interesting other kinds of sitting-up mud I met!
    I loved everything I saw!
    Good night.
I will go to heaven now.
    I can hardly wait...
To find out for certain what my wampeter was...
And who was in my karass...
And all the good things our karass did for you.
    Amen.

    Re: Hi Ho Kurt

Big loss. Mother Night was the unheralded novel that I read in an afternoon and left me with a depression that I'm still trying to shake.
