    Valiquette

According to Baseball America's free prospect blog, Phillipe Valiquette, who left Dayton because of homesickness last year, has returned. Because of the long layoff, they say that he will have a "full extended spring camp." Great to see. I'm not expecting much from him, but I wish him the best. Hopefully he'll see some time in rookie ball this year.

Oustanding news. I would assume he'll be in Extended till mif June when Billings/GCL start, but that's a long time. he might sneak up to Dayton if they need someone in a month

He reminds me of Ryne Duren in a mirror.

    Glasses, arm, and all.

I do recall my son saying that Phillipe was in Sarasota earlier this year. Then in late March, he thought that he'd gone home again. Perhaps that was just a visit and he is now back? I'll ask when I talk to him today.

I saw Valiquette last year in Dayton. He is so frustrating, he obviously has a good arm, but his command was awful, and he got visably frustrated on the mound. From his trips home, to what I saw of him on the mound, my guess is that he really doesn't want to play baseball anymore.

Any left-hander that has scraped 97 mph while still in his teens, as Valiquette has, is worth keeping an eye on.

He's also a couple of inches taller and a good 20-25 lbs heavier than he was when drafted. Now 6-2, 200# instead of 6-0, 175#.

Valiquette returned to the extende spring training last week. He has thrown a couple of bullpens but, no games as of yet. He has looked strong in his pens. So, we have to wait a bit.

I've always liked Valiquette. He really hasn't been handled well in my opinion, so maybe he'll be able to pull it back together.

the reds probably did put him in dayton too soon, but it is tough to develop a pitcher who is not committed and keeps going home.

On the plus side, neither Gonzo nor Val have alot of "wear" on their arms if they ever decide to turn it on mentally. Bizzare headcases.
