    From Trent's blog...

From the Reds: "Today the Reds reinstated from the bereavement list SS Alex Gonzalez, designated for assignment IF Enrique Cruz and sent to GonLouisville on a rehabilitation assignment RHP Jared Burton (strained left hamstring)".

    That's a shame.

Impress in spring training, make your major league debut, get designated for assignment.

I guess he was out of options.

He may still end up with us - he just has to clear waivers. He can then choose to stay with us. We'll see.

I'd expect him to clear waviers. He was playing at AA and the year he spent in the bigs was as a rule 5 pick so, unfortunately, it probably retarded his learning curve.

Unless someone else is desparate for a AA SS, I think he stays with us.

Cruz played 60 games with Milwaukee in 2003 as a Rule V player, hitting .085.

He waited four years to get back to the Show, and booted the first and only ball hit to him. You gotta feel bad for that...

    Did You Know:
Enrique Cruz was drafted in the 13th round by the Reds in 2002 (but did not sign until he was drafted by the Yankees in the 14th round in 2003).

That was the dictionary-definition of retardation, last time I checked.

So does Gonzalez start tonight? I'm not interested in watching Castro anymore.

How can he begin his rehab before his 15 days on the DL are up? He pitched two weeks ago as of tomorrow. No way he's served 15 days. What's the rush with him anyway?

Theoretically I believe they could start his rehab the day he went on the DL. He just can't be on Cincinnati's active roster for 15 days.

Is it 30 days that he can stay down in AAA before they have to make a move with him?

30 for pitchers, 20 for position players I believe.
