If you compare maybin and bruce so far, it is clear maybin is probably being pitched around alot and rightfully so. He has already struck out 19 times in only 45 ab's. Bruce has whiffed 15 times in 11 more ab's. Both are exceptional prospects who have bright futures. Aronchis as you said is underating our prospects which makes little sense when almost all the experts are rating them very highly. We are just following suit.
This should probably be directed at aronchis.
[QUOTE=Aronchis;1310986]Lets see a 25 year old pitcher pitching in Aball. Why do people still care about Gardner? What made his start so awesome? Think he can move to higher levels and do something similiarly? I am amazed how we overrate prospects around here.
The fact is, Bailey and Bruce have been outperformed by the Hughes's,Gallardo's and now Maybin for the last year. Maybe they just aren't that good. Maybe Bailey really is nothing more than a mythical 2 starter. Maybe Bruce is just a above average talent like Dunn(or what we project Votto to be). Maybe all they are is what they are. We all drool for the day we get a Pujols,Arod,Verlander,Beckett(who is bouncing back nicely this year FWIW). Maybe Reds baseball has been in such a talentless pit for over a decade now, we are so desperate for stardom, thus we will overrate what we can and will become messiahical in our own minds. Then leading to severe deflation when it doesn't happen.
FACT? i guess you could make a case that bailey and bruce have been outperformed... but you could also make a damn good case bailey and bruce have outperformed them too.
bailey was 10-6 2.47 era, the minors hit .198 against him and had 156 k's in 138.2 ip last year... and he flat out dominated AA as a 20-year old. hughes' numbers are just as good but i wouldnt say it is factual that he is better than bailey.
and i need to get some of the drugs you're using if you are saying maybin has surely outperformed bruce. because the only categories maybin was better in than bruce last year were AVG and OBP... and i forgot maybin is also a hell of a lot better at striking out. the pitches he is taking are drawing him more walks, but also an excessive amount of k's. instead of taking these pitches, bruce prefers to smash them for extra base hits... and frankly, i wish bruce would stop swinging at them too, because he is becoming way to good of a hitter.
