Stubbs update? Get it?
Anyway, haven't seen what he's been up to lately. I looked on Baseball America and almost heaved. He must be in a huge slump, as he is currently at .264/.363/.696 with 2 HR in 91 ABs with a 28/9 K:BB ratio. All this in Low A, where he has to be one of the oldest players. Wasn't he ripping it up a few weeks ago?
In other news, Lincecum is starting for Frisco on Sunday. Just thought I'd bring it up since they will be linked forever.

Personally, you overstate BA to much. Since Stubbs has been slumping, he has began picking up his walks which is a VERY good sign. His development may be slow at times, but he does have some factors for him. He looks better than BJ at the same time last year when BJ was a year older.
He will pick it up again.
Stubbs is slumping big time. Give it time. I also wish I would never hear the word 'Tim Lincecum' on this website ever again. Nothing against him, but I am so tired of hearing about who we should have drafted rather than just embracing the guy we did take.
Did you embrace Gruler? Espinosa? Sardihna?
How about John Oliver?
Wanna know who else has a rep for being a good OBP guy with a good glove? Machado. Do you embrace him as well.
No offense, because I love your minor league updates threads, but embracing a guy just because the reds took him in the first round is a pretty silly premise. He didn't produce in the Pioneer League, and he isn't producing in the Midwest league.

He also has been hurt the since halfway through the Pioneer League season. Not really saying that is the reason for his problems, but really I don't put a whole lot of stock into first week of May numbers if they aren't that good because well, guys have about 75-100 at bats and thats nowhere near enough to matter. With Stubbs as we have seen, a slump will destroy your numbers in a week.
Comparing a weak hitting shortstop to a centerfielder with lots of power isn't quite a good comparison.
As for embracing a guy.... you don't have to love him, but for crying out loud nearly everything you hear is 'he sucks.' or 'he cant hit' 'wasted draft pick' 'should have taken so and so'.... and it just gets old. How about we at least give the guy a full season before we pass judgement on him?

Bingo. The scouts' worst case scenario is holding true for now. That's not a good sign. He should be hitting better against that level of competition.
I agree with Doug. Stubbs will be just fine. He still isn't 100% either. It's hard to turn on your back foot when your toe is constantly throbbing. It's like having a ingrown toe nail 24/7. I think Drew is going to be a fine Major League outfielder one day. I hope they keep the group in Dayton together as long as possible. I would like to see them dominate all the way up the ladder.

Yes there is. He plays great defense right now and has a good concept of the strikezone. He plays one of the lightest hitting positions on the planet, its not like the guy has to OPS .800 to be of great value to the team.
.sub .700 in the Midwest doesn't translate to anywhere near 800(MLE) nor his pitiful offensive performance in the uberoffense Pioneer League. He is simply living on his great athletic ability. Machado played a light hitting position and had a good concept of the K zone, didn't get him all that far. And CF is #4 on the "light hitting" offensive positions. Stubbs have given zero reason believe that a 800 OPS is in the majors is any more than wishful hoping.
He has time to turn it around but the clock is ticking. And as CF if you want to be of value as a CF you had better have over an 800 OPS.

Um, the average CF OPS is roughly .740 in the major leagues. If you can get close to that and play gold glove caliber defense, then you are doing a great job at your position.
Injury problems, can't hit, high K and Ok BB rate. Guy has more questions marks than the Riddler.
Also, you note a sub .700 OPS in the MWL.... well you know if we want to play 'what a week will do to your numbers' game, lets take his last week out and now Stubbs is hitting .318/.367/.440 with an OPS of .807.
Its amazing what a week long slump will cause people to say early in a season.....
When Stubbs gets on base he usually scores. In fact in the last three games he has been on base 7 times and scored all 7 times. He also leads the Midwest league in runs scored with 21. He needs to cut down on his strike outs but overall he is a pretty good player. Give him a couple hundred at-bats and see if he can make some adjustments. It's still early in the season.
