    I don't agree with drafting "safer" picks in the first rounds. If you go by that philosophy, you're not going to get any of the top level talents. Obviously you can't pick all raw high schoolers in the first few rounds of every draft, but you have to take some moderate risks with the hope that you may end up with a Bailey-like talent. As you all remember, Bailey wasn't exactly a safe pick.

    Neither was Jay Bruce.... but I would say that with the help of scouting and developing we hit two very good peices right there.

    Ryan Wagner was chosen because he was the closest to the Bigs (and although I haven't seen it publicized, I'm sure signability was a big factor, too). Wagner looked stellar until injury. Bowden & Co. decided to disregard the mechanics flaws, which turned out to be a horrible move.
