    Best Options from Deno Trade

Who are the best guys we could get out of the A's Minor League system? I've heard of the catcher Suzuki. Who else?

Reds have acquired Marcus McBeth as the first PTBNL...

Marcus was like a sponge," Romanick said. "Whatever you gave him, he would process. He had a great capacity to learn."

That's all well and good, but the man with the Shakespearian name could bring it -- his fastball could jump up to the mid-90s and he learned another pitch.

"He's got a Johan Santana-type changeup," said Romanick, quite the compliment considering the devastating changeup thrown by the reigning A.L. Cy Young Award winner.

Marcus McBeth is the closer for the A's triple A squad Sacrameto River Cats of the PCL. He went to South Carolina University and is 26 yrs old. Here are his minor league stats so far this year -

    1-0 W/L, 1.80 ERA, 8Gs, 5Svs, 10IP, 7H, 2ER, 3BBs, 6Ks

In 2006 he had 86Ks in 70IPs with an ERA just above 3, mostly at AA affiliate.

Re: Best Options from Deno Trade

Here is what I posted in Redslive about other options. McBeth was my first choice and I think that he was the better of the two players the Reds will get.

    This was one post:

Personally, as much as I like Deno, even if he were healthy and playing, if he could be traded for a bullpen arm with some stuff, I'd probably be for it. I still want to see who the players are before judging or concluding this is a bad deal. Deno for McBeth would be a good deal. I'm not has high on Komine and Casilla is a faded prospect who would be ok as the lesser 2nd player. Windsor would be my second choice behind McBeth. I don't think Dallas Braden would be available now and he wasn't real highly regarded prior to his call-up. Another name as the "throw in guy" could be Dan Meyer. I'm not high on him, but he was once well regarded. I really am not impressed with the position players that much. Since the discussion centers on guys nearly ready, Only Travis Buck, Daric Barton, Kurt Suzuki and Javier Herrera get my interest. I can't see the A's parting with Buck, Barton or Suzuki. Herrera could be OK but why trade Herrera for an injured Deno unless the A's are sour on Herrera? Kevin Melillo could be ok as a lesser second guy, but I'm not really sure what the Reds would do with him. Richie Robnett is a toolsy OF of interest, but farther away than the information so far suggests.
I posted this about A's catchers:

Kurt Suzuki - Highly regarded and probably not available. I think the plan is for him to be the A's catcher in 2008 when Kendall's contract is up.

Landon Powell - AA now. Good Arm and good receiver but slow and there isn't much confidence that he'll keep his weight under control. He's a switch hitter and has some pop.

Anthony Recker - In A+ now and went .287/.358/.464/.822 in 2006. His defense is suspect.

Jeremy Brown - in AAA and is a 27 years old faded prospect. Probably not some one to be interested in.
The stories seemed to indicate that both players were fairly close to the majors. Anyone with better reports on these guys or others who may be likely as the second PTBNL?
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
