What an offensive bonus he has been so far! I am still one of the biggest fans of his signing! I know it probably won't last all year but I think he is better offensively than people give him credit for. Keep it up Gonzo!

Not taking anything away from Utley, but Gonzo was better. Should have been his award alone. It says so in the stats they provided.

This is a nice suprise. I know some here have poo-poo'd Gonzo, called him "marginal", etc. While I am smart enough to know this level of production is not likely to continue, it's a nice shot in the arm right now for the offense.

Especially coupled with the defense he brings to the table.

a super volcano of ridonkulous suckitude.

I simply don't have access to a "cares about RBI" place in my psyche. There is a "mildly curious about OBI%" alcove just before the acid filled lake guarded by robot snipers with lasers which leads to the "cares about RBI" antechamber though. - Nate

I hope he keeps it up, although it's highly unlikely he will. I'll happy if he can give us 15 hr and OPS in the .725 - .750 range this year. It seems like he's well on his way to doing that. It seems like Gonzo is a very streaky hitter, and I fear his slumps will be downright putrid, worse than the one Ross has been going through. Hopefully hitting in GABP will allow him to become a more consistent hitter this year.

Wasn't this about the same time last year that Phillips won player of the week?

He's not the weak Castro-like hitter portrayed here on RZ. I think he'll be more than adequate offensively

The only way I was going to come around on the gonzalez signing was if his power came back. Hopefully he keeps this up and is a legitimately decent bottom of the order threat.

Re: Alex Gonzalez co-winner of NL Player of the Week

What were the odds that Alex Gonzolez would be the first RED to win the award this year, as it's always given to the player that has the best offensive numbers for the week.

"Gonzalez led the N.L. with 13 hits"

Easily could have 14 hits; his Friday night grounder in the hole (maybe a step on the OF grass) that bounced out of Jack Wilson's glove was scored an error on the Pirate SS, but I thought it should have been ruled a hit.

Do players of the week get some kind of trophy or is it just a name
    recognition thing?
