    Daryl Thompson dominant

Didn't see an update posted... but the forgotten part of "the trade" is doing very well so far in 2007.

    GS: 4
    W-L: 4-0
    IP: 23
    SO: 19
    H: 11
    BB: 1 (0.52 WHIP)
    OAVG: .119

He's definitely old for Low A ball, but has been great since coming over and getting healthy. Hopefully he'll be in Sarasota soon --not sure how crowded their rotation is.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

And 1 run given up in those 23 innings, for a 0.39 ERA.

IF he can keep this up, and IF he progresses well in his next THREE levels, then he will make the trade worth it in the long run. That's in spite of the fact that it was a trade meant for the now (summer 2006), not the future.

It was a trade meant for the now AND the future. Both teams got players who they'd control for several years.

No, it wasn't. Clearly it wasn't. Bray and Maj were supposed to impact the bullpen immediately for a run at the division. They did impact it, just not in the way WK hoped. Harris was some offense to offset the TREMENDOUS loss of offense from Kearns and FeLo. Clayton was a throw in, and Thompson was an unproven coming of shoulder surgery.

Anything Thompson does is a bonus. But I'll bet you couldn't find one guy in the FO that said he was the key to the trade.

The only time is trade is made for the present only is if you're acquiring talent that you will no longer control after the season ends. That was not the case, not even close. The Reds had the ability to control everyone they received in that trade, except Clayton, well beyond 2006. That is still true for Bray, Majewski and Thompson. Saying the trade was for 06 alone is plainly counter to the facts.

Obviously the trade did not work out the way Krivs wanted it to at the time, but their are reasons GM's have prospects thrown into deals to sweeten the pot. Luckily for us Thompson looks to have regained his form and is dominate at his current level. We shouldn't be talking about the trade the question should be why aren't some of the more dominant Reds prospects being moved up the ladders of the orginization.

In general, guys don't get moved till midseason. I think the idea is that there is a benefit to letting them excel for awhile. Builds confidence, helps one of your affiliates do a little winning, etc.

When there's a need at the major league level you may see a guy promoted more quickly.

True, but it was more for win now than anything else. Bray has upside, Maj had nothing but luck on his side and the benefit of pitching in a pitchers park. Of the 5 guys acquired only 3 remain, and I doubt Maj ever puts on a Cincinnati uniform again. Bray is hurt with no timetable reported for his return to AAA.

Medlock was at AA all year last year. He doesn't need the confidence boost, he needs a challenge.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they are shining Medlock up for a mid-summer trade.

How funny/ironic would it be if Darryl Thompson somehow turned into an ace and in 10 years everyone looks back on the trade and talks about how dumb Jimbo was for trading him for a speedy 2B and mediocre rightfielder.

Thompson, at the moment, needs to prove he can stay healthy more than anything else. For a pitcher, low A is light years from majors.

Did I miss something, last I saw he was throwing on an every other day basis for Louisville. Why would he not be called up if healthy?

because he isn't having much success in AAA. Majik is, when heathly, an average middle reliever. He was never anything more than that because he walks too many and Ks far too few.
