In a strictly boxing match, of course.
But in an MMA match, a boxer would get destroyed just like any one dimensional fighter would get destroyed in MMA. Unless a boxer was also a former solid collegiate wrestler or had some worthwhile ground experience, it's unlikely they'd have the necessary sprawl to keep the fight on the feet. And when the fight hits the ground, it's over since a boxer would be out of his realm and completely helpless.
If a Sherk vs. Mayweather MMA match would ever happen, that fight would be on the ground in less than 15 seconds, because I'm pretty certain Mayweather wouldn't have the type of sprawl necessary to stuff a Sherk takedown. Once on the ground, that fight would probably be over within another 90 seconds either from ground'n pound or an easy submission. Mayweather wouldn't have any idea what in the world to do with a guy like Sherk on top of him on the ground.
Does anybody really think Pretty Boy could stop this?
That's in slow motion, and take a look at the clock. That's less than two seconds from shoot to full out slam. Mayweather wouldn't have a prayer of preventing that from happening to him.

Floyd and whoever responded are both pretty dumb. I guess i missed the context, but I have no clue why people are comparing Boxing and that junk sport.
Boxing- MMA
Baseball- Softball
It's just sad to me that this instant gratification society can't handle boxing. I can't even get friends to watch fights anymore because they can't stand the lack of true action. They want meat head choke holds and blood everywhere. I shouldn't blame MMA for the decline of boxing though. Boxing and it's agencies have screwed up enough on their own.

This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.
That clip of Sherk slamming Florian that Cyclone provided sums it up well.
Listen, I'm a huge boxing fan as well... and am not a johnny-come-lately fan of MMA. I've been watching the stuff since getting bootleg tapes of Shooto and Pancrase in the early 90s even before Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie at UFC 1 and have watched it ever since, through PRIDE's start, rise to the best promotion, and subsequent sale just a few weeks ago. And I like MMA for the scientific competition of it as boxing fans like boxing for sweet science it is... sure, I like head chokes, but not any more than any other submission, like armbars, ankle locks, triangles, and whatever else. And I could do without blood ever being involved in a fight. I imagine that's comparable to hockey "fans" who only watch for fights and auto racing "fans" who only watch for wrecks. I'm sure the casual bandwagon fans of MMA that are into it for these reasons will probably hop off the wagon before too long anyway. Then again, who knows, I didn't think the explosion that started in late 2004/early 2005 would still be going on today.
Anyway, of course, Sherk would get knocked out instantly by a good Mayweather punch. In a boxing match. But some of his people are talking like Mayweather would win regardless, even in MMA... he's thinking that he'd have Sherk knocked out before any kind of ground fighting would come in the picture. I'm not so sure of that.
That's rather ignorant to label MMA a junk sport, don't you think?
I don't particularly care for soccer, and while you'd never find me watching a soccer game, I still respect the sport, I respect its athletes, and I respect its fans who admire the sport and its athletes.
I enjoy MMA because it's a showcase of well-rounded skills, not because I'm interested in seeing blood. It's always interesting to see guys who dominate in one aspect transition into MMA, and sometimes they're able to do it. Wrestlers transition in. Brazilian jiu jitsu fighters transition in. Grapplers of various styles transition in. Muay-thai kickboxers transition in. Judo fighters transition in. They work to develop more well-rounded skills around their primary skill set, and some of them have ultimately become very successful.
This is the main reason why I'd actually love to see some world class boxers transition into MMA and a guy like Mayweather would be very interesting. It would take a few years, but if he could develop a good sprawl, an ok ground game (mostly submission defense), and mix in some muay-thai then he could possibly become a legitimate MMA force. If he fought a guy like Sean Sherk next week in an MMA fight, Sherk would dominate him and it wouldn't be close. But if he developed some well-rounded MMA skills over the next few years - primarily a good sprawl and an all-around takedown defense - and transitioned into the sport, then that could possibly be a great fight several years down the road.

De La Hoya, has to win this fight just to shut up Mayweathers mouth. This guy does nothing but talk and has'nt fought nobody. When he does fight all he does is run, run, run and run.I mean who wants to watch a fight when all a boxer does is run.I can't stand watching fights like that!!! I guess thats why my favorite boxer was always Arturo Gatti. His fights were always exciting to watch!! When he was losing a fight badly he still would'nt run,he got back in there and brawled.
Anyways im going for De La Hoya but my heart says Mayweather b/c he won't fight.
I can spell,I just can't type!!
My money, literally, is on a DeLaHoya KO. I can NOT wait to see this fight tonight!!!

in a MMA rules match with a boxer (with no MMA experiece) going against a MMA fighter the MMA fighter would win easy. The footwork is totally different between the two sports. Same going for an MMA fighter stepping into a boxing match.... his footwork wouldnt allow him to go blow for blow with a boxer.
MMA is not a junk sport anymore. Now many of the top athletes get involved with MMA. Take a look at Crosscheck who converted from NCAA wrestling. I dont like the guy but you cant deny the athlete he is.

Dominating performance from the best boxer in the world. Never got hit hard. Brushed off every power punch. The Comp stats show just how one sided this was.
The judge from New Jersey should be put in a psych ward by the way.

MMA guys beat boxers 10 times out of 10 in a mma fight (or even a street fight)
If you're going to call a guy out and say you will destroy him,
make him your ******, and it's going to be a massacre, etc...
Stand up and fight like a man, don't run away like a woos.
I wouldn't be as upset if he hadn't talked all that trash, cause it was a great show of boxing.
But don't try to be the man, if you're not gonna be the man you know...
DLH was always coming fwd and pressing. He was the champ.
You're supposed to BEAT the champ and TAKE his belt from him.
