Wasn't there a Justin Timberlake video on SNL a few months ago that addressed this very dilemma?

If you are broke, I think I agree with the idea of cooking for her.. maybe do something a little more romantic than hamburgers. A couple cheap candles and cheap flowers. And then rent one of those boring romantic DVDs that chicks love. (Note: American Pie: the Naked Mile doesn't count )

You should be able to do that for less than $20.
Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking about taking her to the Zoo...
Maybe you could mow her yard into a mini-baseball field? Throw down the foul lines, put in a batters box, and to go the extra mile, trim a few shrubs to resemble foul poles. If she's an "old school" kinda gal, leave the dirt stripe from the batters box to the pitchers mound.

I simply don't have access to a "cares about RBI" place in my psyche. There is a "mildly curious about OBI%" alcove just before the acid filled lake guarded by robot snipers with lasers which leads to the "cares about RBI" antechamber though. - Nate

Yea, but that could turn out to be the most expensive gift of them all.

Okay, then mow a heart shape into her lawn, Grounds Crew.
If that's considered mildy dirty, then this:

So, what did you end up doing, Grounds Crew? If you ask our advice, you have to tell us what you ended up doing.
