    The one that got away

Ryan Wehrle, Nebraska's highly rated SS that the Reds drafted in the 18th round last year has been dismissed by the the team per USA Today. He was a draft eligble Soph who wanted big money to sign so the Reds took a shot and he elected to to return to Nebraska. Not a good decision, he is only hitting .244-3-18 this year.

Does it say what he was dismissed for?

No. But one article said he turned down a 6 figure bonus to return.

Does this comment come from the often stated Colorado-ism; "Nebraska doesn't have recruiting problems, but they are struggling with the salary cap".

The Wehrle issue, according to a couple of Colorado kids, has been complicated by a rather negative club-house reaction to Coach Mike Anderson that has been going on all season. Wehrle is the fifth player let go this season and while he has had his issues off the field, he and the Coach have been at odds for months. Ryan's parent's Craig and Sue are happy that he is moving on. The straw that broke the Coach's back? Ryan failed to hustle to first base on a fly-ball to RF. After returning to the dugout, Coach kicked him out of the dug-out following a heated exchange. Met with Ryan the following morning and had him turn in his uniform.

Wehrle's situation is one of many that Anderson has encountered in the last calendar year. Nick Jaros and Ryan Bohanon were dismissed last year, while Mike Harmelink was dismissed last month. Anderson has suspended four other players for legal issues this season.

Almost sounds like the Coach may be having troubles of his own. Perhaps, we'll find out at the end of the season.
