No kidding. That is very suprising to me also.
a super volcano of ridonkulous suckitude.

I simply don't have access to a "cares about RBI" place in my psyche. There is a "mildly curious about OBI%" alcove just before the acid filled lake guarded by robot snipers with lasers which leads to the "cares about RBI" antechamber though. - Nate

Nope, but it's going on the ballot this fall from what I understand.

The ban is frequently defied in San Francisco. Some bars, like the one I work in, just let the patrons smoke and pay the occassional fine. Some bars will let you smoke after a certain hour. Some make you smoke in part of the bar and not others.

I quit 10 days ago but I still think people should be allowed to smoke in bars. Its a BAR!

    I agree with you.

When I smoked, and the weather was like this, I would have rather gone outside anyway. Now, I'll just go walk 2 miles instead, or if I'm at a bar, I'll go outside with the smokers if I so desire.

People should still be allowed to use spittoons in a bar. It's a BAR!

Why should people be able to smoke in bars?

I like to go to bars/clubs and I don't smoke. Neither do most of my friends.

Dippers do, it's just usually an empty beer bottle.

And that, my friends, is that you should always pay attention to which beer bottle you're reaching for when you're drinking with dippers. And never, ever, pull a "Spalding."
Burn down the disco. Hang the blessed DJ. Because the music that he constantly plays, it says nothing to me about my life.

How often? Because the bread-and-butter of any bar are the regulars who are there 5 or 6 nights a week. And they smoke.

That's not a spitton. Below is a spittoon. It's a large, foul-smelling, unsanitary place where strangers spend hours whipping up a disgusting mix of bile and phlegm, add a touch of tuberculosis and influenza, and share with everyone around them. Commonly associated with…bars. And it kinda looks like an ashtray, just sayin'.

    Some relevant words from Wikipedia:
In the late 19th century United States spittoons became a very common feature of many places, including saloons, hotels, stores, banks, railway carriages, and other places where people (especially adult men) gathered. Spittoons were intended to replace previously common spitting on floors, streets, and sidewalks. Many places passed laws against spitting in public other than into a spittoon. Some people of this era objected to restrictions on where they could spit as an infringement on their individual rights. None the less, a larger segment of the public favored use of spittoons.
    Sounds kinda familiar.

Not me personally, but I've watched happen. One of the funniest, yet most disgusting things I've witnessed. Some of the guys in the college fraternity were serious dippers. A brother was chatting up a nice young lady and reached for his beer sitting on the window sill without looking, missed and grabbed the bottle next to it which had been used for expectoratory purposes. He drank it down and it came right back up, all over the girl he had been chatting up. Nothing worse than the smell of beer, vomit and Kodiak, all mixed together.

Nope. He didn't get the nickname "Last American Virgin" for nothing.
