    BJ Ryan is done

Got TJ surgery today, gone 12-14 months at least. Now THAT'S why you don't give those kind of contracts to closers.

So now I guess the Juan Guzman deal has become a good one again?

Can't judge it yet, let it play out.
We'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

Doc K did the surgery, according to ESPN.

It was crazy money, but it is even crazier to give that kind of money to a guy with such violent, herky-jerky mechanics.

Well, the Guzman trade did free up space for on the 2000 roster for Rob Bell. This allowed them to build up trade value for Bell who was then traded for EdE. So, even if Guzman was totally useless in 1999, it was still a good trade.

In all seriousness, the Reds won the Guzman trade no matter how good of a career BJ Ryan had. If they were able to pull of that trade a few weeks earlier, they might've made the playoffs.
Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!

In that case, he'll be cleared to play in a couple of weeks.

I am guessing that "the surgery was successful" which is of course the medical publicist's equvalent of "I am going to give 110% and the good lord willing I'll be able to help the team."

Oh, I totally agree. That was classic deal in which both sides achieved their goals. Guzman nearly pitched the Reds into the playoffs, and the rebuilding Orioles got a quality prospect in return for a pending free agent.
