Having a damn good start isn't he?

People have been quick to denounce Brandon and call for a big regression. Isn't happening so far.
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.

    Re: Brandon Phillips, 30-30 guy?

Does his swing just look like he is pulling off the ball, or does he actually try to pull everything?

When I watch him I just can't help thinking that why aren't the Brook Jacoby's of this team trying to correct that?

With his talent, 30-30 is not out of the question. Consistency is the question.

I think 20-30 is more likely... but that's still pretty darn good for a 2B!

He's absolutely capable of a 30-30 year. It might not happen this year, but I'd be willing to bet he'll put one or two up in his career.

Harang might win 20 as well. Nothing like rooting for individual accomplishments on a last place team.

    30 walks/ 30 DP's

Phillips is an odd duck. The speed and contact for top of the lineup/ but lousy OBP.

A decent rbi/ clutch guy...but man, he's too fast to bat 6th. I say bat him 6 or 7 and let him swing and steal away.

We could always root for individual suckiness.

    Re: Brandon Phillips, 30-30 guy?

I agree VR. I think Phillips is a perfect fit batting 6th. In my opinion, speed, paricularly when paired with a lower OBP, is best utilized low in the order. When is that stolen base more valuable? When the guy behind you has extra-base power and can drive you in from 1st base or when the guy behind you is a singles hitter (or worse)?

Stealing 2nd base in front of Adam Dunn is a smaller marginal gain of run expectancy than a stolen base ahead of Alex Gonzalez. Likewise, losing a baserunner in front of Dunn or Junior is more costly than losing one in front of Ross or Gonzalez.

Throw in his power and he's a natural fit at 5, 6, or 7.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

When he pitches. I don't understand why anyone that is a fan of the Reds would root against him or not root for him. He signed a contract that the Reds offered him. Get over it.

I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.
