For those wanting a reason not to write off this season

Last year on this date the Minnesota Twins were floundering. By May 18th they were 10.5 back, their deficit grew to 12.5 games by 5/25. It stayed as bad as 11.5 games as late as June 10. They got as far as 7 games under .500. They then went on a tear, won 19 of 20 (always helps), had another streak of 12-1 a couple of weeks later, and cut into the Tigers lead and caught them for the division crown the last weekend of the season.

Feel free to make the usual comments re how it would be nice to have Santana, Nathan, and that bullpen.

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Twins' 2006 record with Castro: 30-34
Twins' 2006 record without Castro: 66-32

    Coincidence? Hmmm....

    Good point.

And, hey, whose to say it isn't possible? I don't think the Brewers will stay this hot, and I don't think the Reds can possibly be THIS BAD.

The 2006 Twins are most certainly not the 2007 Reds. Santana, Nathan, Liriano are just a few reasons why.

The Twins had that Cy Young Award Winner, and the MVP (who at age 24 at 1b had an ops of .741 the year before, but they stuck with him) to go along with a stud closer, and play great defense.

maybe if MLB games stopped at 7 innings.

even then, thats still a BIG maybe.
L.A. manager Grady Little had a bad feeling about Wednesday's game when he saw Harang and pitching coach Dick Pole walking in after Harang's warmup.

"I saw two big men," Little said. "Either could have shut us out tonight."

    They didn't have Josh Hamilton

So, all we have to do is call up Liriano.

I wierd thing about this season for me is that I still think that the reds have a pretty good team. They have four good starting pitchers, and a pretty good lineup. They just seem to always find a way to lose. I don't know if it is Narron or a lack of team leadership. I just can't put my finger on it. I just hope that somehow they can turn it around and have a good season.

    We're not the Twins.

Want to know somebody who could go on a tear and carry the Reds for a week? He's in AAA. Go look at what he did for about a 2 week stretch in August last year, or a 3 week stretch in April last year.

I don't think the bullpen is going to get magically better either.

It's still early, and we can get better. However WK and JN have shown me nothing to believe they will make the right changes to get better this year.
