    Minors Transactions.. Gardner at AAA?

How about Gardner to AAA. Make me wonder if he was just filling a roster requirement, and will move back

    Pauley activated at Sarasota.
The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

    C. Trent Rosecrans blog says that Homer Bailey was placed on the DL with a strained right groin.

Hes probably taking Baileys spot while hes on the DL.

I had heard that Gardner was being promoted from someone else, although we both thought it was going to be to AA. Maybe he still is heading to AA.... just after he fills in at Louisville.

Well, he would have if Chris Dickerson hadn't booted one. But jumping three levels to whiff three Syracuse Skychiefs (Brad Hassey, Jeff Duncan, and Wayne Lydon) is a neat little feat, even if only Duncan's cracked the majors.

I know it's easy to want to see guys move up if they've had great success at one level...success being an ERA of 2.00 or under, but if it's only been 5-10 starts or the equivalent time for a reliever, I'd like to see them go around the league (Low-A, High-A, AA, AAA, whatever) before moving them up a level. It's a huge step to go up a level, and I'd like to see what they can do the second time they see a team. Give them half a season as a starter or a reliever before moving them up. Low-A, though maybe less if they're just dominating (1 hit per 2 IP, and 0 or 1 homerun), then move them up to High-A as you're making room for the new draftees anyway or signee's from Latin America.
Rob Neyer: "Any writer who says he'd be a better manager than the worst manager is either 1) lying (i.e. 'using poetic license') or 2) patently delusional. Which isn't to say managers don't do stupid things that you or I wouldn't."

Maybe the organization wants a quick read on what he's got. He isn't a young prospect anymore, after missing a lot of time due to injury. Definately a candidate for aggressive promotion.

If he does OK at AAA then it might put him back in the team's picture. If not, he still has a chance to regain velocity as he recovers and give AAA another go next year and/or get a move to the bullpen and see if he can become a contributor in relief.

    Interesting, though.

Very well could be. Good point, we will find out soon enough I guess. If he is still in Louisville in 3 weeks, he is probably more than a fill in.

Duh..... I was thinking today was Wednesday.... now I have an extra day of work.

Did Richie say if the organization had told him anything about jumping 2 levels? Like we think you're ready or we just need somebody so you'll get a chance?

I've been looking forward to this all week. I may even listen to the game over the internet if possible. Gardner and Pauley were the two guys that got me interested in the Reds minor league players.

I've got tickets to tonight's game. I'm no scout by any means but I'll try and give some sort of worthwhile report tonight.
