Hal McCoy's Amazing Fact about Maddux...

An amazing stat: Maddux is the only active major-league pitcher with more than 400 appearances who has never taken a no-hitter past the seventh inning, "I did have a no-hitter in high school."
Does this mean David Weathers has??...I knew about Stanton throwing a no-no back in the late 1800's but I was unaware of Weathers' getting close to a no-hitter in days when he started...

Or is the Amazing stat not quite that amazing???

He probably meant 400 starts. That would be my guess.

The amazing stat I heard on FSN Ohio is out of 17,000+ batters that Greg Maddux has faced only 18 batters started with a 3-0 count? Could that be correct? If so, that is an AMAZING STAT!!!

Weathers did it last night. He was in the game past the 7th inning and gave up NO HITS in three innings of work. Therefore, he had a no hitter past the 7th inning. Right?!?

he looked pretty good in a Reds-Dodgers game in Cincy last summer; I think he took a no-hitter into the 5th, but then there was a rain delay and he didn't come back after that.

That myth has been debunked. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/...&type=Pitching

Heck, he's already gone 3-0 8 times this year! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/player...?playerId=1800

No, b/c IBB would wipe out that stat.

according to this website, you must have had Moyer on your fantasy team in 1987.

What? My mind's as sharp as a steel trap...

Thanks for the link, princeton. That's a very interesting site. One I couldn't help but start to read the whole page...I'm going back to read the rest now.

Just looked at that page and I think I was thinking of 2001 as the year I had a player on my fantasy team flirting with a no-no. Mike Mussina, he lost his no hitter in the 9th to Carl Everett.

I swear Moyer had a no-hitter going with the Mariners one year (in the 2000's). Not sure if he took it into the 9th, but I'm certain it was past the 7th.

    Found it.

May 19, 2001. Seattle vs NYY. Moyer retired the first 22 batters he faced and then lost his no hit bid the 7th.

Here is some Javy Valentin trivia. I always thought the LLM took a grip it and rip it approach to hitting a la John Daly. Surprise. Javier has struck out only one time in 52 Plate Appearances this season. You could win fortune, fame or, if your lucky, a cold brew with that bit of trivia.
