Guttle, I don't think you fully appreciate the disappointment we UK fans have been routinely subjected to in regards to recruiting the past few years.

I don't see anyone predicting a final four next season, but does this successful recruitment show me that UK is back in terms of being a national powerhouse in regards to recruiting (something Billy G has ALWAYS excelled at, and Tubby absolutely SUCKED at, BTW)? Yes, yes it does.

And, in my opinion, about 75% of being a successful coach in the NCAA is predicated on being a successful recruiter.

I really thought we had him. I thought when Lucas landed here, Patterson was on the way. Nice pickup, and congrats. He's gonna be a good one.

How many years will he stay? Any guesses? Is he a 2 or 3 year guy?

You want disappointment? Try going through a season in one of the nation's toughest conferences with one returning letterman who is nothing more than a role player at best. Try competing with a football player receiving 10 minutes of playing time and an NAIA Hurricane Katrina refugee. Try recruiting quality low post players only to have them be declared ineligible by the NCAA a few weeks later.

Welcome to life in Clifton. We had to start completely over. You guys get to "rebuild" from 20-win seasons. Congrats on the recruit, but I'm not going to feel sorry for UK fans. Not for a second.

Oh, and don't start dupe threads.

All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

I totally understand what you are saying, Paint, but, just like the concept of a "down season" is different for the Yankees than it is for the Reds, expectation levels basketball-wise for a school such as UC versus those at UK are quite different.

Not to bag on UC, b/c honestly I root for them as prolly my 2nd team behind UK (admittedly a distant 2nd) but it seems like much of what Coach Huggins had going at UC was a deck of cards that totally collapsed once he left. Not that I think his dismissal was in the best interests of the University, he was a hell of a coach at UC who kept them nationally relevant year in and year out.

Hi all. I have been reading these boards forever but am a newbie when it comes to posting.

Patterson is a great get for UK but did anyone else listen to Skinner on 1530 Homer this morning to hear the Patrick Patterson comments about Billy D? Maybe it was taken out of context but it basically was along the lines of, Billy D said he would help in any way he could getting my parents a house in Jacksonville. Did PP mistakenly implicate Billy D for shady recruiting?

I would make a snarky comment in this thread but WilyMo would probably throw a tantrum.

Comparing UK basketball to a cockroach infested kitchen. Sweet.

I think that's a pretty accurate comparison, personally.

    Yeahhh!!!!!!

Honestly, I didn't exactly see that one coming, but I'm glad it did. Very huge.

Also, we don't want anyone to feel sorry for us. It is nice to see other basketball fans already becoming jealous. Last couple years i've really missed that. You guys just don't understand how it is to have a very successful program, but maybe some day your school will win a bunch of national titles, and improve it's prestige up to the level of UK.

On a side note, Tubby just hired Timberwolves assistant Vince Jackson for the same position. He was an assistant under Pitino at Louisville. His other two assistants are Ron Jirsa(fired at Marshall but better known for replacing Smith at Georgia before Harrick), and his son Saul Smith.

For those who are arguing about how big a deal this is, the best comparison I can give is landing Jamal Mashburn after Suttongate. The program has declined under Tubby, similar to the way IU declined under Mike Davis and UNC almost fell under Matt Doherty.

Also, I have seen Patterson play at Charleston in the tournament and I will say for those who haven't seen him that the kid is a beast. Whether that will translate to the collegiate level is another story. The only thing that concerns me with Patterson is his size and matching up against taller players, especially centers if he plays there. He is wide enough, as his body is built for rebounding. Many Florida fans were comparing him to Al Horford and I think that comparison fits.

As far as personality goes, he is very quiet and mature, unlike the other player at Huntington High. His parents I think have done a good job of keeping him in check, and I think Kentucky fans will love Patterson if they haven't already.

For those who want to question Kentucky fans, Huntington High played two games at Memorial Colliseum back last year, one against Lexington Catholic and the other against Scott County. The television broadcast focused more on Patterson than Mayo, and the fans were doing their part to woo Patterson to Kentucky, even though he was an opposing player.
