Makes sense. I guess he was just part of the fill in process they were going thru. I would assume Lockwood drops out of AA rotation.

does that mean homer is ready to go?
Interesting.
I'm glad. Two Blasts in your first game is not a good sign, even though the other innings had good results.
This way, he got just a taste of AAA, and didn't have to get pounded in repeated outings. It dangled a carrot in front of him and let him know that if he does well in AA and learns his pitches better at the same time, then the next jump is inevitable.
Don't expect great things from Chattanooga right away. If his ERA is league average, then that will be fine. Chattanooga is a huge jump in itself. I'm interested in him keeping the homeruns to a minimum and the hits to a lesser number than the innings pitched. I don't care much about walks at this point.
Gardner succeeded at Chattanooga the first time he pitched there. The issue is whether or not he's the same as he used to be.
Was Gardner's one start with the Bats a bad one? Just curious.
Not really- six innings, four hits, three earned runs, two walks, two strikeouts. All three runs scored in one inning and were the result of a pair of Toledo homers.
So not terrible, but not terribly great either. The Mud Hens have a decent lineup for an AAA team.
Gardner has a future. He'll show us again at Chattanooga and I'd bet that he's only there for a month. That's when we start signing this years draft picks and the motion starts.
Fargo, I share your enthusiasm about Richie Gardner. Even in his AA heyday he never blew you away with his stuff. He just pitched great. So I suspect he will do well at AA.
The fact that he has become such a groundball pitcher will serve him well.
But I will disagree that the June draft will set off a flurry of moves. The Reds are notorious for keeping their draftees at GCL and Billings.
