    Prospect Profile: Daryl Thompson

    Height: 6-1
    Weight:183
    D.O.B: 11/02/85
    Age: 21
    Bats: Right
    Throws: Right
Drafted: 237th in the 2003 draft by the Montreal Expos
Acquired: Trade with Washington (Going to Washington: Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez, Ryan Wagner; To Cincinnati: Gary Majewski, Bill Bray, Royce Clayton, Brendan Harris, Daryl Thompson)

The minor league throw in from the infamous trade with the Nationals, Thompson has been the real bright spot of the deal. After only throwing only 7 innings in 2006 before the trade due to arm surgery and only 21 innings total, Thompson has regained the form that made him one of the Nationals best pitching prospects before the trade.

Scouting Report out of High School:
COMMENT: Very long arms, legs. Live arm with plus fastball potential. Overhand-3/4 delivery. Fastball bores, up and down to right-handers. Curve potential ML average with quick, tight, downer rotation, works corner away. Effective change. Three ML potential pitches.

In his last start (May 20th) Thompson went 6 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 run, and 1 BB, while striking out 8. He picked up his 1st win in High A in his 3rd start.

I hope he settles in at High A this year and becomes at minimum, an average pitcher in that league.

Thanks for putting that together...especially the high-school scouting info.

Thanks for the update Reds44. I was just thinking about him today and wondering how he was doing.

His 3rd start was outstanding actually. That first start is so opposite of every other start he had in this season.....

Cueto has been struggling some in Sarasota lately. He has failed to make it into the 6th inning in his prior 3 starts, and his lowest ERA for a game came two starts ago where he posted a 5.73. The good news is, he is still striking out quite a few batters.

    Last 3 starts:
    June 10th: 4 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
    June 18th: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
    June 23rd: 5.1 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

His Current numbers in High A look like this:
    2-3, 5.39 ERA, 44 IP, 46 H, 30 R, 26 ER, 9 H, 15 BB, 44 K, .271 AVG

Thompson had an interesting outing last night. He threw 5 shutout innings, but gave up 9 hits including, including 4 in the first inning.

    His final line: 5 IP, 9 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
    His season line: 10 GS, 49 IP, 55 H, 30 R, 26 ER, 9 HR, 15 BB, 47 K, 4.78 ERA, 0.71 GO/AO, .288 OPP BA.

Those are just his Sarasota numbers, I didn't include the Dayton numbers. You can find his Dayton numbers in the 1st post of the thread.

With him and Cueto giving up more hits than IP I wonder what their BABIP is? I wonder how poor that defense is and if isn't a big part of the culprit?

Hmmm, not as bad as I expected but still not good. That .352 isn't good at all however, 7 of his 10 starts have been at home. Ahhh, disregard I looked up Thompsons starts.

Thompson has posted back to back pretty solid starts. Over that time he has gone 10 innings, surrendering 8 hits, giving up 1 run while walking 3 and striking out 9.

    His season totals:
