I miss Felipe Lopez. I was reminded why he was my favorite Red tonight. Also, I have to think Stanton is the odd men out when Bray comes back in the near future.

Well, sometimes guys just fall off. No rhyme or reason to it, but players just get to a point where the game gets increasingly faster and their arm, bat or feet just can't keep up. We're witnessing Stanton in this stage.

Could be. I'm often quick to jump to the injury conclusion. I guess I've just seen too many guys, especially pitcher, keep going when they should stop. Stanton's reactions and comments tend to lean toward him being a guy that wants/needs to be out there to work through whatever's going on. Unfortunately, barring a DL stint, we're going to keep seeing him. That second year is an awful lot to eat and there's not likely a trade partner out there.

L.A. manager Grady Little had a bad feeling about Wednesday's game when he saw Harang and pitching coach Dick Pole walking in after Harang's warmup.
"I saw two big men," Little said. "Either could have shut us out tonight."
Stanton could not afford to lose any sliver of ability in stuff or command; he simply had no margin for error. I was right behind home plate at the game last night, and his fastball was topping out at 86 (though the radar gun was having problems all night) and Ray King's breaking balls looked better. Even if there is an injury here that hurts his ability in the short term, I think Stanton is finished. He simply can't get back the ability he had in the 90's at this point.
Bad gamble, Wayne.
ALSO, Narron has to know Mr. Stanton has nothing in the tank and should have taken him out after he got through the bottom of the lineup. It is a terrible drain on the roster to have an ineffective "specialist" on the team, but Stanton does, unfortunately for the Reds, fit that description.

While this gamble didn't work out, it's unfortunately the kind of gamble teams in the Reds payroll range have to take if they want to take a chance a winning now. They don't all work. We're just in a bad streak right now.

I did not like the Stanton signing as I would have rolled the dice with league minimum salary guys instead of giving the 8-figure LTCs to the likes of Speier, Wright, Willliamson, and Schoeneweis.
A couple of gambles I thought made sense were injury risk Chin-Hui Tsao (currently succeeding in the Dodgers pen, though in low-leverage situations and IMO overreliant on his slider instead of his 95-97 heat) and submariner Chad Bradford, though I realize there was no guarantee either would have signed. I also like recent Royals DFA (though picked up by St Louis) Todd Wellemeyer. There are league average guys for cheap, you just have to overturn the right rocks.

Why should every team but the Reds take their time and make sure their most prized pitching prospect is more than ready to make their jump to the majors?
I'd like to see a little more of him
on an opposing team.
