So againest a 29 year old lefty with 39 innings pitched in the last 5 years we're going to make it easy on him.
    Go Gators!

What has Gonzalez done that says he should bat second?

Looking at his stats the only spot in the order Gonzalez has had success is batting 7th.

Batting 7th he is hitting .329 with an OPS of .923 in 73 ABs
Batting 2nd he is hitting .286 in 7 ABs
Batting 5th he is hitting .176 with an OPS of .569 in 51 ABs
Batting 6th he is hitting .136 with an OPS .572 in 22 ABs

Gonzalez is not a good hitter period but based on stats he appears comfortable in one spot batting 7th.

Gonzalez has logged 1025 plate appearances in the 2 hole in his career. He's put up this line: .252/.298/.391 for an OPS of .689

Right personnel; wrong order. I would prefer:

    Freel cf
    Phillips 2b
    Griffey rf
    Dunn lf
    Conine 1b
    Encarnacion 3b
    Gonzalez ss
    Ross c
    Belisle p
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

    Jane you ignorant sl ut.

Don't you know batting lefties back to back will only lead to them bringing in a lefty specialist in the 8th inning when we've got 2 on and two out and we won't score anymore?

This has to be the most exposure Chevy has gotten in years.

As for the lineups, I am not a fan at all of Gonzalez batting second (for obvious reasons) or Phillips batting fourth (overly aggressive). To Narron (or really any manager we've had in the past few dreaded years), the two spot just seems like a total throw away spot in the lineup. Gonzalez has slugged at a much higher clip than most anticipated, but it's hard to overlook at that borderline .300 OBP statistic tied to his name.

If Encarnacion starts hitting like he did last year then I wouldn't mind seeing him batting 4th.

His OBP in May is a paltry .233. His slugging in May is only .380. If he must play, bat him no higher than 7th.

Yeah, but if we can hammer 'em in innings 1-7, it won't matter much! :

Agreed, though I would prefer him hitting fifth. But until he starts hitting better, I don't mind Conine hitting ahead of him. (Against righties, I would still hit him fifth, ahead of Hatteberg. After all, you can't have three lefties in a row! )
