    POTC: At World's End

Went to see the new "Pirates" movie tonight. Pretty good action flick...and Depp is once again phenomenal as Capt. Jack Sparrow. Keith Richards is pretty good in this movie as well.

It really threw me for a loop though, not your typical Hollywood film. It's nice to see something original come from the Walt Disney company.

    My vote:
This is the Cal Ripkin Jr. of typos.

If you ask me to join your fantasy baseball league and I select Legolas in the first round, don't be angry at me. It's not my fault I've read up on the players and you haven't.

I concur with the two thumbs up. I walked away from Dead Man's Chest thinking "this is what i paid to see". I walked away from POTC 3 feeling that this was well worth my money and the nearly 3 hours of sitting through it.

They definitely left it open to do a fourth episode if they so choose.

I also thought it was very well done. I love Barbosa. Depp's about as good as you thought he'd be.

Did anyone stay for the scene following the credits?

Oh yes. I think if you haven't learned to stay by now you'll never learn. One of my buddies saw it twice this weekend and didn't think to stay either time. I won't spoil the extra scene but it wasn't what I expected (I expected more light hearted).

I thought this was the worst of the three. The first two were decent, but I thought it was a step down.

I'm curious as well. What did you think this one was lacking that the other two had? I sort of thought the first one was the best, and this was the second best. I thought the second one was a step down.

    Re: POTC: At World's End

This had to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. They took a fun and character driven show (Pirates 1) and attempted to trun it into a complicated epic along the lines of Lord of the Rings that was more about the story than the characters. It wasn't funny. It wasn't fun. It was VERY poorly directed. The parts that they tried to make funny didn't seem to fit. They seemed forced. The story was hard to follow. They turned this into something it wasn't. The first one is the only one I really enjoyed. I loved that one. The secon one was OK. This one was awful. I didn't enjoy a single thing about this.

I enjoyed the original "Pirates" movie, "The Curse of the Black Pearl." I thought the second "Pirates" movie, "Dead Man's Chest" was terrible; it was so bad, I have refused to take my kids to see the third film. My 14 year old son did see it last Saturday. He found it to be such a piece of garbage he left the film early.

I heard the Depp only appears in about half of this movie. That true?

I'll wait till the DVD comes out.

Taking the kids to see the new FF movie today.

I saw the new Fantastic Four movie while I was in Akron earlier this week. The critics seem to like it better than the first FF movie, and it is doing well at the box office, but I didn't like it as well. I was kind of bored by it.

My wife and I kept talking about getting up and leaving, but we were hoping would be something redeeming at the end, but there wasn't. It was WAAAYYY worse than the second one.

I went and read one critic's review last night and they said they tried to turn it into Star Wars. That's a good description. I can't think of the last time I went out to the movie theatre and saw a worse movie. Talk about missing the point. I'd have to say the producers and directors completely missed why people liked the first one, because the next two weren't anything like it.

My favorite is the 1st one. I wish they would stay away from the fantasy part of it. I know its not going to be realistic, with it being about pirates, but they went a little bizarre on some things in the 2nd, and even more in the 3rd.

Not a bad movie though IMO. I would give it a 7 out of 10.

Me and the kids saw it yesterday. I agree - it was boring. I saw more action in the Transformer trailer. And I understand these are comic book heroes, but they took the "being comical" aspect to extremes in this movie IMO. There was some Three Stooges stuff in this one.

My 11 yr old Sam is really intrigued by this Dr Doom character. I wish I hadn't lost all my vintage comic books in that fire. Growing up in the early 60's I had some classic FF comics. I would have liked for him to have been able to see what the REAL FF were like..... these guys ain't it.

And Jessica Alba may be good looking, but she's no Sue Storm. She makes love to the camera with her looks but no amount of physical beauty can camouflage the fact that she can't act. And I really don't like Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards either. Reed was the decisive, level-headed leader of the Four.... not this wimp.

Tim Story and 2oth Century Fox should be ashamed of this picture. The Fantastic Four deserve better.

Thank God this movie was only 90 minutes long.

I just read this one review after I posted the above....

For non comic book fans over the age of 13, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is a tedious, incoherent bore. For comic book fans of any age, it is an atrocity - the cinematic desecration of one of the most storied and beloved of Marvel comic book epics. It reduces iconic characters to soulless special effects and turns one of the most ominous and dangerous of all villains into an interplanetary storm cloud. The action, of which there is little, is predictable and unexciting. The so-called "drama," of which there is far too much, is painful. Soap opera writers would be embarrassed to script such drivel. Then there's the overlay of "comedy," which is intended to reflect the superheroes' comic book origins, except it's not funny and it makes the Fantastic Four seem more like the Four Stooges than a quartet of world saviors. For a story that has been kicking around in one form or another in Hollywood for 30 years (at one point, it was to have starred Olivia Newton-John as the Silver Surfer's girlfriend), it's discouraging that this is the best the filmmakers could divine.
