Rough day for Jay. He was due for a bad day after the tear he's been on.

Votto walked in his first atbat. Game is scoreless in the first.

Ondrusek is intriguing. 6 foot 8 and 205. Somebody send this guy a pizza or something. He's been pretty effective but not noticed much. His K Rate isn't very good and his BB rate is low. He gives up few HRs. His height suggests power pitcher but his stats say finesse type.

    Anybody with any info?

BTW another good day for Pelland with 2K and 0BB. I'm liking that alot.

Another good inning. I'd like to see him and Medlock promoted. Hopefully the purge starts soon and some spots open up.

Tyler Pelland's last five relief appearances:

    3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
    2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
    3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
    2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
    2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K

    Total: 12 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 18 K, 13.5 K/9

I really liked the move by the Reds to switch Tyler Pelland to the bullpen. As you can see, he has greatly benefited from the move. His walk rate has gone down and his strikeout rate has shot up. I think we could see him in a Reds uniform sometime next year now that he is a reliever.

Lefties get work because they're rare. Lefties who throw hard are very rare. Pelland is a stud in the making IMO.

I'm telling you, the major league team stinks, but this system is in better shape than at any time since the "crown jewels" era. I think 2009 looks promising w/o a major restructuring. Just need to change the guard from the tired old stop gaps to these up and comers. The Reds have numbers for at least the lesser roles and some who may step forward for something bigger. I think Pelland could be one of those step forward guys.

Dayton is up 1-0 after one inning on a Chris Valaika solo HR, his sixth.

I'm in that boat. He could have seriously dominating stuff out of the pen considering he was throwing low-mid 90's as a starter.
