    Katrina Pictures

A friend of mine sent me a email of nunmerous pictures that were taken as Katrina was coming inland. Pretty awesome. They were taken by a man in Magee, MS where the eye of the storm passed through. Magee is 150 miles north of Waveland, MS, where the hurricane landed.

The last pic was somewhat frightening. It was taken from the third story balcony of Saint Stanislaus College located next door to Our Lady of the Gulf church in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi on the morning of August 29th, 2005. This is believed to be the initial tidal wave from Hurricane Katrina. The tidal wave was approximately 35 to 40 feet high. When it slammed into the beach front communities of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland Mississippi to completely destroy 99% of every structure along the beach for 9 miles and over a mile inland. The destruction only started there. The flooding that continued inland destroyed the contents of all but 35 homes in these two communities of approximately 14,000 people.

Some of them look like V'ger coming to visit.

The last one is very possibly authentic. I've seen it a lot among disaster relief circles.

I've got plenty of shots of what it did, and Bay St. Louis was indeed ground zero for Katrina.

Here's a link to about one hundred shots I took after Katrina. I'm not sure if you have to register on the site or not to view them. It's the Peanut Gallery.

Mrs Ltlabner's family all lives on the gulf coast. I have some pictures she took during a visit in April 2006. The files are larger than what RZ allows (500k to 1.2meg). Not sure how to post them, but if I can figure out a way, I will. They show some of the destruction that took place. Amazing stuff.

You got to be kidding me! Wait till I get to work. The people in the office have been circulating these around because they are pretty awesome pics. When I first saw them I was somewhat suspicious because they looked so "perfect". Man!

I'm sending them the snopes link.

Do you have any photo editing software, where you can resize them down?

This photo is from the courtyard of St Stanislaus after the storm.

St Stanislaus College has noted that the storm surge photo in GAC's list was NOT taken from their balcony. They note the yellow post as something no one recognizes.

    Re: Katrina Pictures

Here are a couple of the pictures Mrs. Ltlabner took while visiting the gulf coast of Miss in April 2006. Katrina hit in August 2005, so this damage is 8 months after the storm. These pictures come from various places between Biluxi and Bay of St. Louis.

The first one is a picture of the bridge that used to connect to the Bay of St Louis area. The "Bay of St Louis" picture is of an area that used to be filled with shops, resturants and houses. These buildings filled every block, and went right to the waters edge. The Casinoship was a floating casino that obviously took some damage.

That bridge is about to re-open ... single span for now, I think.

My niece (HS Junior--17 years old now) said most of her friends lived across the sound (connected by that bridge), so it was really hard for her to visit or meet her friends anywhere convenient. Tough on a HS So/Jr.

A friend of mine lives in Long Beach MS and works for a TV station. He borrowed a video camera. Drove along hwy 90(along the beach) from Waveland to Biloxi. Not much left standing the entire way. 90 minutes tape of nothing but debris. I saw some of it, but couldn't watch it all.

Most of those clouds are of thunderstorms in "mature stage" with heavy rotation and tornadic. Pictures probably taken in the plains of tornado alley.
