Cueto Makes Jump to AAA

Once a player is comes onto an organization, and pitches for a while, I doubt his original draft postion figures much into how he is handled, other than you might expect a first round pick likely has more potential than a 20th round pick. But if the 20th round pick suddenly displays 1st round potential, he'd be treated the same way.

Not to convert these players to livestock, but they are assets, and I know that with horses, Kentucky-breds are your 1st-Round draft picks. You look at them differently and you treat them differently. They have less to prove, also. Thought it might be the same way with baseball players.

A Were those scouts from the Yankees and the Braves and the Cubs — guys trying to devalue Bailey for a steal of a trade? Put it this way: I'd give my left arm (which never retired a single major-league hitter, or high school hitter, for that matter) for the futures of both Bailey and Cueto. You can't argue with what Bailey has done after he dominated Class A, Class AA and now Class AAA. Cueto dominated low Class A (at Dayton) but is only 2-4 in high Class A (at Sarasota). Call me The Great Vacillator — I'll take Bailey and Cueto and spot you a game in a three-game series.

Cueto was named the FSL pitcher of the week. The part about him not pitching for 10 days is wrong though, he was promoted for Louisville for that one start. The writer just assumed he missed a start without noticing he pitched six innings at Louisville.

After not pitching for 10 days, Johnny Cueto took advantage of the extra rest. Cueto pitched six innings of shutout ball, striking out 10 Vero Beach batters as Sarasota defeated the Rays, 16-0. Cueto has put together a solid season, pitching 60 1/3 innings while only allowing 22 earned runs. The Dominican has also struck out 52 and only walked 19 batters.
