    Santos DFA; Stone Up

The Reds brought up Ricky Stone from the Triple-A Louisville and designated Victor Santos for assignment. Stone was 4-4 with a 1.70 ERA at Louisville. He had nine saves in 11 chances. He returned to baseball after taking 2006 off.

Ricky Stone isn't the answer, and he is old. Bad move. Should have brought up a younger guy.

If Ricky can pitch well for a bit maybe we can extract a young prospect out of a contender for him. I'm cool with that.

We can bring the young guys in near or after the trade deadline.

What tells you he is going to pitch well? The last time he pitched in the majors in 2005 he posted a 6.75 ERA with the Reds. He didn't even pitch at all last year.

Stone's last go round with the Reds in 2005 wasn't so hot, not sure how this helps the club improve (looking towards the future). His numbers in Louisville say he probably deserves a shot, but I'm guessing the end results for Ricky won't be all that different from Santos.
I'm wondering if the future isn't served better by moving Lohse to the bullpen and auditioning Dumatrait or bringing Livingston back. Hard to see how the overall results could be any worse!

Not sure how anyone could be mad about this move. We got rid of Santos, and we're trying a guy out. Worse thing that happens? He sucks, like everyone else in the pen sans Weathers, and we try another guy out.

None of us know beyond a shadow of a doubt what he will do.

Honestly, I'm hoping for another Schoeneweis. Get a few good outings and sell (release him for draft picks) high.

    If he bombs...

Wayne just replaced Santos with someone worse than Santos. That ain't easy.

Hard to argue with the release of Santos. Just too bad we don't have anybody more solid to turn to than Stone. How about DFA's for Salmon, Coutlangus, McBeth? I say hand em out all around. Everybody Wayne's brought in has been bad. The only mystery to me is why anybody want him making the trades that are probably coming up. Lopez, Kearns, Cody Ross, Germano, B. Harris--five very useful major league ballplayers given away for, as yet, no return. Chris Denorfia will be the next one we'll need to put in that category.

He got through the inning last night without giving up any runs. More than I can say about the others...

I say why not ricky stone until he proves otherwise. What do we have to lose?
    WHEN DOES IT STOP!?!?
