Castro? Shouldn't we at least put it up for a vote? I was gonna vote for Todd Coffey myself.

Should've made a poll before making this thread. My vote would definetly go to Narron

Can the whipping boy be a non-player? I wasn't aware that there was precedent for that. The manager is a de facto whipping boy whenever the team is losing... so that doesn't make it much of a distinction.

Well there are a few good reasons not to like him, I don't think there's a reason to "hate" him though.

I cannot grasp just how bad Juan Castro is. He has a .389 OPS. There are 24 MLB players with higher on-base percentages. How in world is it possible for this man to even be on an MLB roster? Heck, not only is on a roster, he has a two year contract.

I guess perception of good defense can get you a long way in some organizations. Unfortunately, I root for one of those organizations.

You're right, and he has had some high-profile blow-ups...

...but Coffey's ERA in May is 3.18. That's not bad, and it's almost the best in the pen for this month. I think he was sent down five weeks too late. He had turned it around, then had a bad outing and was sent out.

I can't get minorleaguebaseball.com to load, for some reason, so I can't find Coffey's stats at Louisville.

Okay, the site finally loaded, and a couple of kind RZ members were kind enough to send me the stats, as well.

Coffey has pitched three times in AAA, and hasn't allowed a run.

I think he needs to be in Cincinnati.

How can we ignore Stanton and his 2 year deal?

Yes sent down way too late, On the point of Castro, time for him to become a coach, I am sure there are other slick glove men who are younger and have a little more range. Stanton.....oh boy... don't even get me started, he should not be in a Reds uniform period.

Time for this teams front office to start making decisions, either go younger, or go home, it's better to burn out, then it is to fade away. We restlessly state Homer should be pitching here, while others argue that it's way too early. Well I look at Glavine and Maddux and see there stats early in their career. Sometimes baptism by fire is a good thing.
