    Tony Batista and baseball fights

I remember him doing the same exact thing after getting beaned by Harang a little while back.

This must be his routine way of handling a situation after getting beaned, but what is the point of running like that?

If he had done that 40 years ago, then he would have gotten beaned every time up for the rest of the game by a few well known pitchers.

    Self preservation.

It looks like his initial reaction was to charge the mound but cooled down and changed his mind. In this case, possibly because the pitcher took off. In Harang's case, possibly because...well, Harang is a mini-giant.

He did the fake charge just the other week against the Reds when Majewski plunked him. I really don't know what his reason for doing it is.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

You're right it was Majewski that hit him. Harang was pitching earlier in the game.

I found it odd when I saw this youtube clip of him doing it a few years back.

It's like he suddenly remembers his chances of connecting with any swing is less than 20%.

Well, considering he was cracking up laughing at first base with Hatteberg or Conine (can't remember which was over there) I'd say he just does for laughs and to poke fun at the guys who do charge. It's not something to be examined a whole lot. Just comedy.
