    Clinton Portis' remarks

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2878099

"I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not, but it's his property, it's his dog," Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis told WAVY-TV in Virginia. "If that's what he wants to do, do it. I think people should mind their business."

When told that dog fighting is a felony, Portis replied, "It can't be too bad of a crime."

I have no idea why he would open his mouth and release a statement like this.

A guy I work with has Vick on his fantasy team (keeper league) and today at work he was giving me a hard time and I said, "oh yeah, well at least my QB isn't fighting dogs." Everybody laughed. A good time was had by all.

This thread only needs about 420 more posts to reach this level over at the Redskins board.....man, it has gotten heated over there. I post under "kleese" FYI

    Re: Clinton Portis' remarks

Clinton is one who was never exactly shy. He comes from a rough neighborhood in Mississippi where gangs and drugs were a way of life. He had some struggles growing up with a dysfunctional family along the way too. While I am not making excuses for his comments I can see why they were made. Many kids living in the inner city today grow up in an environment where dog fighting and violence is a way of life. Dogs no longer represent mans best friend but they are a symbol of status as well. Hopefully Portis can make up for his statements by doing some educational work in helping the SPCA and others get through to kids and adults that dog fighting has no place in society today.
If you have a losing record at Reds games, please stop going.

Maybe Portis was "in character" when he made those comments? Dolomite Jenkins? Doctor Don't Know? Inspector 2-2?

"Well, he does play for the Redskins," said a lifelong Cowboys fan.
