And they're ruining those of us who are attempting to look at purchasing a house not made out of scrap metal, Bond-O, and spit.

I've always heard that the heroin problems are Northwest-wide (read: Seattle), not just something localized to Portland.
The rain is a pain, that's also why caffeine and beer work so well here.

True, case in point. The house across the street sold in 3 hours, it's a small 2 bedroom with a finished basement and big back yard, 1 bath too... 305K the woman who lived in it died last spring, she lived there 50 years, bought the place for 5 K.

At this rate I'm going to have to wait on my extremely healthy, mid-fifties parents to kick the bucket before I'll be able to purchase something that's a cut above what the Unabomber would expect.

I feel for you, I realized the same thing in California about 6 years ago, just sad, lived there for years, went to school there, knew the whole place inside and out and had 20 years of relationships there... but I didn't want to live in an apartment for the rest of my life either. I miss it every day, but damn I like Portland too.
