The Oakland Athletics released right-handed pitcher Jay Witasick on Thursday.
Witasick was designated for assignment on Sunday.
With Oakland this year, Witasick was 1-0 with a 3.60 earned run average. In 385 career appearances over 12 years in the major leagues, he is 32-41 with a 4.59 ERA.
Witasick made his major league debut in 1996 with Oakland, and also pitched for Kansas City, San Diego, the New York Yankees, San Francisco and Colorado.The Toronto Blue Jays designated righthander Tomo Ohka for assignment on Thursday.
The native of Japan made 10 starts for Toronto in 2007, posting a 2-5 record with a 5.79 earned run average. In his last start on Wednesday at Tampa Bay, Ohka took the loss, allowing five runs and 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings.
For his career, the 31-year-old Ohka has a 50-62 mark with a 4.14 ERA.
