    Gold Cup

    The United States plays their first game in the group stage of the Gold Cup tonight at 9 p.m. versus Guatemala on Fox Soccer Channel.

    The Gold Cup is an important tournament for the United States to win, because the winning country receives an invitation to the 2009 Confederations Cup, one of the most prestigious tournaments against some of the best teams in the entire world and an excellent "tune-up" tournament for the 2010 World Cup.

    The Gold Cup is a regional tournament against teams from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. (biggest threat: Mexico)

    Yep, as well as I thought the US looked overall in the first half, they have been just as poor in the 2nd. Gooch's second yellow was just plain dumb.

    All of the good things they did in the first half, they abandoned in the second.

    Carlos Ruiz is a skunk. Touch him and he collapses like a deck of cards. And the ref has bought into it way too many times.

    Guatemala is the most cynical, cheapest, most willing to take a dive team in the world.

    Games against them are always like this.

    2nd game Saturday at 4:30 vs. Trinidad and Tobago. Onyewu will be serving his 1 match suspension for his sending off last night.

    Look for Watford man Jay DeMerit to get the nod.

    Why is Mastroeni suspended for three games. Is it because he got a red card straight out or is it something else?
