out of 6 picks, 3 are ss

Comments: Soto has an intriguing package of tools that includes raw power and above-average speed. Currently a shortstop, he doesn't profile as a guy who'll be able to stay there, particularly range-wise. That's OK, because his offensive skill set fits better at third. He should hit enough for the position and could develop into a No. 5 or 6 hitter in a big-league lineup.
    drafted 109
-power, above average speed. he would probably move to 3rd

Comments: Cozart has perhaps the best set of hands in this year's draft class and shortstops who can catch the ball are often hard to find. His lack of speed may hurt his range as the game speeds up and there is a question as to how much he'll hit at the next level. Some see him as a shortstop who can hit in the two-hole, but he also may just be a utilityman who hits ninth.
    drafted 79
-great hands, possibly the best in the draft class. slow, low range

Comments: Frazier was drafted three years ago, but he honored his commitment to Rutgers, following in his brothers' footsteps. He's had a very productive year at the plate, showing power and run production ability even though Rutgers has hit him out of the leadoff spot. He'll change his place in the order as a pro just like he'll likely change his spot defensively, from shortstop to either third or a corner outfield position. Considering the dearth of college bats in this class, it's hard to imagine he'll last long on draft day
    drafted 34
-big, would probably move to 3b or corner outfield. he's a hitter

We already have depth at SS in the minor leagues in Janish and Valaika, but it seems like 1 or 2 of these guys could switch positions. I'm just wondering why we aren't drafting pitching..

picks 2 3 4 of the reds all have the letter Z in their name, weird.

Valaika wont be a SS in the majors. Neither will Frazier or Soto. I dont see a problem with taking these guys as shortstops becuase they won't be sticking there long.

Eric Davis was SS. I love picking SS. What kind of athlete are you if you can't beat your HS classmates for SS?

SS can play anywhere. It's all about the defensive spectrum. Bobby Bonilla was a SS. Gary Sheffield too. In HS in particular, the SS is the best athlete on the field.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

That Soto kid is a LF. Count on it. Unlesss he's just messing around in that video, he doesn't have much of an arm. Long, loopy swings also.

I cant remember what College program it is, I think maybe Florida State but they basically only recruit infielders who were shortstops in High School. Their theory is in order for an athlete to play an adequate third base and second base at the Division 1 College level, then they need to be athletic enough to at leased played shortstop in HS. Maybe the Reds are thinking along the same lines that in order to play a quality third base or second base in MLB, then you need to be athletic enought to at least played shortstop in College.

Reggie Sanders was a shortstop. Personally, I would have liked to have seen more shortstops drafted that will stay as shortstops.
