    Homer's Velocity

Is it just me or has anyone noticed Homer's fastball didnt reach 97mph which it did regularly the last few years. I saw him with the Dragons a few summers back and he was hitting 96 and 97 alot. I was at the game and he didnt go above 95 and was pitching mostly in the low 90's where as in the minors he pitched in the mid 90's most games. Am I missing something what happened to the 96 97 fastball?

I saw several pitches come up 96... His velocity is not the problem. Its his command.

Damaged goods, Krivsky is filing a grievance against Dayton as we speak.

This is why I rarely post on this board!

Anyone else notice the first strikeout against Sizemore that was way up... I think that fastball was 89 while earlier in the inning he was at 96 a few times.

I apologize in advance because this post doesn't have anything about Bailey's velocity, but I just noticed that 6 of the top 9 threads currently on the Sun Deck have to do with Homer. Do you think we as Reds fans are excited about him at all?

Homer topped out at 96 I think, I only remember seeing 95. His velocity went down he topped around 90 in the later innings.
I hope it's never sunny in Philly again.

ALmost everytime I looked up there it was 96, I think my friend and I saw 97 once, I think it was the second time he got Sizemore.

you also have to remember it depends on what gun is clocking him. What brand, how old it is, etc. Also GAB is known throughout baseball to have a "shallow" pitching mound, which means the ground between the pitching rubber and the grass is not that steep. The steeper that part of the mound is, the faster I have heard you can throw, because of the more severe "drop-off."
Not this year...maybe a Wild Card

    Re: Homer's Velocity

nah, I saw a lot of 92-94, occasionaly putting it 94-95, with only about 5-7 pitches reacing 96. Not bad, but I distinclty remember reading about one of his starts last year in Chattanooga where it was pointed out that he was 94-96, and touching 97 on his 97th and final pitch of the night.

All this could be nothing but differences in radar guns.

    Re: Homer's Velocity

He jacked up a few in the 93-96MPH range, but settled in the 90-93MPH range for most of the game according to the stadium gun. maybe it was just the gun, but even in Louisville, the buzz seemed to be that his fastball was not quite as blistering as it was in '06. Maybe as the year drags on, he'll start pumping the high 90's gas again.

I believe he was requested to hold back a little to give the Indians a chance.

Thats not his fastball. That was either his hard slider or cut fastball.
