    Red Sox DFA J.C. Romero

I would think Wayne has to at least try to pick this guy up, he was 1-0 with a 3.15 ERA in 23 games with Boston so far even though he was awful last year with Los Angeles. That and he's "only" 31

The Red Sox wouldn't DFA an effective reliever without reason. A 1.95 WHIP and 11/15 K/BB ratio in 20 IP tells me he's not going to help.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Romero would just add to the mess that is the Reds bullpen.

Krivsky won't sign him unless Romero is willing to sign a multi-year contract.

Bingo. That pretty 3.15 ERA just tells you how effective the guys who've been cleaning up after Romero have been. And just as a rule, beware of believing that ERA for relief pitchers tells you much at all.

Exactly, though you're talking to Reds fans here. I've lost track of how many times I've seen the argument that all those baserunners that relievers allows aren't an issue. The Red Sox just cut the sort of fellow the Reds collect.

Don't give them credit, the Red Sox not only collected him in the first place, they only cut him to make room for Mike Timlin.
