Seems that's the way it works, make'em jump in the deep end and swim. That's a tough challenge but it a.) gets them quickly over any jitters they may have and b.) lets the coaching staff/front office see how they react to a little pressure

Louisville lost 2-1. Rick Sweet loves small ball apparently. The Bats attempted 3 sac bunts today, 2 were successful. No runs scored after any of them, including in the 9th. Votto lead off with a walk and Edwards bunted him over. Bellhorn K'ed and Machado grounded out to end the game.

    Votto 2-3 with a walk
    Dickerson 1-2 with a homerun
    Keppinger 2-4

Team to watch in the second half is Chatanooga. Reds have a lot of prospects at AA and this team looks very strong.

Yep, and the funny thing is in the first half they were the team that got the least attention.

The infusion of ptiching talent from Sarasota should help them win more games and having a couple more solid bats in the lineup will help those already there see a few more good pitches. I think you may see a significantly improved team the second half.

From the Lookouts website, no mention of Cueto or Ramirez...hmmmm. Hope that is just bad reporting....

Bruce Almighty: Heralded Prospect Jay Bruce Now a Lookout
    Date Posted: 6/21/2007

The Cincinnati Reds have announced a flurry of moves affecting the Chattanooga Lookouts. As a result of the six-player transaction, Chattanooga will receive OF Jay Bruce, RHP Josh Roenicke, and INF Adam Rosales. All of whom are being promoted from Sarasota. To make room for the aforementioned players, LHP Luke Lockwood (released), OF Cody Strait (reassigned to Sarasota), and INF Tonys Gutierrez (reassigned to Sarasota) have been removed from the Lookouts’ roster.

OF Jay Bruce, the second ranked prospect in the Reds’ organization per Baseball America, was selected as the Florida State League Player of the Week on Monday, capping an impressive stint at High-A ball. The 2005 first round pick (12th overall) hit .325 with 11 homers and 49 RBI during his time with Sarasota this season. Among his numerous accolades, Bruce was named Low Class-A Player of the Year and Minor League All-Star by Baseball America after hitting for a .291 average to go with 16 home runs and 81 RBI for Dayton last season.

RHP Josh Roenicke served as the closer for Sarasota before being promoted. The former UCLA football and baseball player notched 16 saves in 27 appearances, placing him at second in saves in the Florida State League. He put together a 3.25 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 27.2 innings of work. Roenicke, whose father Gary and uncle Ron both played in the Majors, was a 10th round selection in the 2006 draft.

INF Adam Rosales, a 12th round selection from the 2005 draft, is currently tied for third in the Florida State League in doubles with 23. He is hitting at a .294 clip with five homers and 48 RBI.

LHP Luke Lockwood appeared in 14 games for the Lookouts this season. The lefty amassed a 1-7 record with a 5.53 for the season.

OF Cody Strait hit .216 for the Lookouts with seven homers and 11 steals. INF Tonys Gutierrez hit at a .274 clip with the Lookouts. He also hit two homers and drove-in 17 runs on the season for the Lookouts.

GCL team won 6-2 today. Lot of guys from this draft and '06 draft now on GCL team. Mr. Soto, one of the Reds high picks this year, got three hits and three RBIs. Chiu, 19 year old pitcher, with 4 scoreless innings. Team has a number of recognizable names.

Neither of them are on the Lookouts roster, and Medlock and Gardner are still on the Lookous roster.

The Bats do return home tomorrow and the Reds could be waiting to promote Medlock and Gardner until tomorrow when the team returns home, then the Ramirez and Cueto promotions would follow.

I think maybe that since Roenicke is a reliever and the other two guys aree position players that they are announced now and placed on the roster because they can play ASAP. The other guys are starters, or have been starters at times in Ramirez's case. Maybe they won't be making the roster until its their day to go, or other moves are made over the next 48 hours.

Jordan Smith is the scheduled starter for Dayton. Luis Montano is listed for Billings.

They always do that with the bunting. First and no outs, second and no outs, three-run lead, tie game, doesn't matter. I've taken to calling it "Sweetball" in my blog's Tuesday Minors reports.

Pretty much the only Louisville hitters that I don't think I've seen bunt are Joey Votto and maybe Mark Bellhorn.

Sweet is definitely a fan of giving away outs.

Jay Bruce is batting third and playing centerfield tonight for Chattanooga. Rosales is batting fifth and playing first base.

Playing center? Do you think he'll play that in the majors? I've always seen him as a corner outfielder.

Meanwhile, Jay and Rosales get to face Gio Gonzalez in their first game. Welcome to AA boys.

    Fisher goes for the Lookouts.

Travis Wood pitching for the SaraReds.

    1 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 1 K

Sarasota's lineup really took a hit losing Bruce and Rosales [/captain obvious].
