I played ball with Brian Grant, but that was years ago long before his stint in the NBA. He was hardly famous then, so I don't know if that counts. He was a couple years behind me in grade school, but they had him play on older teams when he started getting too good for the kids his age.

I played softball against Carlos Diaz who is on Extra, he broke a player on my teams nose and we fought. When my wife is watching extra I have to leave the room.

The only way it would have been cooler would have been driving past you on their mopeds. Whenever I think of the largest twins riding their mopeds I smile. I dont know what that says about me though.

    Here's a few:

I met Johnny Bench when I was in high school at Cincy's music hall in 1979 or 1980. My friend's neighbor was a roadie for Crystal Gayle and we went to the concert (and got backstage passes). Old number 5 was standing backstage with us after the concert. My friend and I (and his family) were all tongue tied--all we could ask him is how is knees were. We met Crystal Gayle as well.

My wife and I saw Michael Jackson at Spago in the Caeser's Palace Forum mall in 1999. He was seated about 10 feet away from us. And believe it or not, he's stranger looking in person.

Met Mike Ditka at the Pittsburgh Airport years ago waiting for a flight to Chicago. He was very nice.

and John Poindexter of Iran-Contra lives in my neighborhood. He and his wife have had three beautiful Irish Setters since I've know them.

Last year, I was in L.A. at a random Hollywood bar with some friends from college. My buddy Ed and I are catching up, glancing at Sportscenter on the TV in the corner of the room. We start to notice a guy wandering up to the bar who looks just like Brian Doyle-Murray. He randomly asks us "They show the Cubs score yet?" and we just had to ask, knowing all the Murrays were from Chicago. Sure enough, it was him, and he must have enjoyed our conversation, because we tried to settle up our tabs at the end of the night. Turns out the governor of Punxstawney (Groundhog Day anyone?) paid for everything. It was awesome and crazy all at once.

    Re: Odd famous person sighting

I've met several Reds players, and coaches.

When I was really young, we were on an elevator in a hotel with Terry Bradshaw and his O-Line. One of 'em stepped on my foot, and it hurt. I had tears in my eyes as I looked up at this gigantic man and he said "Sorry kid." I have no idea who it was, but he was a Steeler. I hate the Steelers.

Jessica Simpson was walking right in front of me at the San Francisco airport back in 2004. I wasn't sure if it was her at first, but when she noticed my Reds ballcap and smiled I was positive of it.

I have a funny story about that's not really mine, however...
My step-dad used to work for Apple. He got one of his former employees hired on there after he got settled in. This guy was in the orientation class, and they took a 10 min break or something like that. Well he got back to the lobby to wait as they didn't have access badges yet, and one other person was there as well. They waited around a while, and nobody was showing up. They got worried. This man walked up and asked them if they were lost, and they explained what happened, so this man walked them back to their class. As they walked in the room, the trainer/teacher what have you, stopped as the man stated that he found a couple "straglers". The trainer said "Thank you Mr. Jobs." My step-dad said his friend was so embarrased.

We were in a local Mason Gold Star Chili a couple years ago with my sister and family. Dan Patrick of ESPN was in there with his family. My college age nephew who goes to FSU thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever encountered. Patrick (nee Dan Pugh) is originally from Mason and evidently likes Gold Star over Skyline.

I met Drew Carey in 1996 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. A friend of mine and I had been out on the town all night gambling and drinking. We sat down in the lounge at the Riviera to listen to the band at about 3 am and soon discovered Drew Carey and a few other people sitting at the table next to us. We were feeling pretty confident so we went over and said hi and ended up talking to him for several minutes. He was just a really nice guy and talked to us like we were just one of his pals. We asked him where we were going to party at the rest of the night but he politely declined because he was about to meet up with a "lady friend."

I was in Chicago a couple of years ago and saw Esteban Loaiza and Juan Uribe dining with their families at Fogo de Chao.

I rode an elevator with the *ugh* Denver Broncos the night prior to the Chiefs/Broncos game a few years ago. My friend said, "Hey, that's Bill Romanowski," and they all started laughing and I believe Clinton Portis said, "Bill Romanowski? Wow! Where? I'm going to get his autograph."

When I was a kid, I gave Bobby Kennedy my Gilligan For Senate styrfoam hat at a campaign visit to Cincinnati at the zoo. My grandma was still alive, so it had to be the summer of 1966. I still remember running over to her yelling "he's wearing my hat!".

Once ate ribs with Harry Spillman and Nolan Ryan (and my dad and one of his friends) at Walt's Hitching Post.

Saw Calvin and Grant Hill in the airport in Omaha, NE.

Played golf in a group right behind Chris Carter, Butch Carter and Keith Byars (was not part of an outing).

Sat at a booth right next to Alan Jackson at the Pancake Pantry in Nashville.

Used to see Billy Ray Cyrus at the Belle Meade Krogers all the time.
