Seems fishy that the tough decision on Bonds making the team or not now doesn't have to be made thanks to a massive vote make-up for a player people hate.

    Yep, something stinks about that.
I agree, especially given that the latest votes were what - like a week ago?

How do we know the results haven't been tainted?

I think it was, I don't really think it's a big deal either, the allstar game long ago stopped being important in any way, MLB should just name who they want and who belongs, the voting is silly

If it was? It would certainly fit with the Bonds image.

As far as his deserving to be there, that's a good subject for a thread of its' own. Feel like starting one?

I think it really depends on how those votes were made up. I have no problem with SF fans stuffing the ballot box. The whole point of fan voting is to encourage fan participation and generate fan interest. However, if the number of votes that found their way to Bonds were the result of some sort of jobbing the system by MLB to avoid the sticky situation of Bonds not starting in his own town, I'd have a real problem with that. For now I'll give MLB the benefit of the doubt and say it was fan voting.

He's an active player. End of discussion IMO.

I wouldn't doubt that someone from the Giants organization wrote or had someone write some kind of program to vote for Bonds. Heck, someone on here made some program where you could vote 20 times for Reds players a few years ago. The Giants probably just took it a little farther.

No, the actual number in the discussion is 130,000. Like I said, why not start a seperate thread if you want to discuss the other number? I'm sure that there are any number of people that are willing to talk about that.

I think the same as you. FOX wanted him there so they made sure it would happen. But it doesn't matter. It's just an exhibition game.

Fixed? Of course. MLB oughta have Vince McMahon umping behind the plate for the ASG. Only be fitting after the sudden surge in votes for B*A*R*R*Y.

San Francisco is awfully close to Silicon Valley, where there are more people with the technical capability to game an electronic ballot than anywhere else in the US. It could just be a cluster of eager nerds who pushed the Bonds total higher. Or it wouldn't be difficult for the team or Bonds to hire the ballot-stuffing job done, with so much high-powered expertise nearby.

That's a reach, I'll counter that they're probably way more interested in making money than making votes.

Hey with all the mess in votes that actually matter in Ohio you'd think that folks would be used to a little discrepancy now and then...
