Search the forum for "DePodesta" and you'll find that the guy has a large and vocal set of advocates here.

While his baseball acumen is substantial, he was alleged to have the abrasive personality of Brad Kullman. Others allege that he's wedded to the coasts and would never consider a gig in a landlocked market like Cincinnati. I think he'd definitely innovate in Cincinnati, but he's probably too avant-garde for Bob Castellini's taste.

Interesting 2 cents from a Dodger fan friend of mine on DePodesta:

"Yeah, he got in a lot of trouble for trading Lo Duca but I am glad that we got Martin now. Of course, he thought that the future was Dioner Navarro and if he didn’t get injured Martin would be blocked. He also refused to trade Edwin Jackson and Greg Miller. Getting Penny has been great and I’m not as enthusiastic about Lowe as the article. Lowe is very inconsistent. Hee Seop wasn’t going to be good regardless of the injury. He also got Milton Bradley which caused a lot of internal problems. I am totally hating on him right now. Coletti blew it this past offseason but other than that has been solid."

Just interesting to see the other side of the argument.

The beat writers in this town would be 10 times worse then the ones that helped get him canned in LA

I probably wouldn't mind too much. It would make for a very interesting summer in '08 regardless of how good the Reds were. Think of all the sub-plots:

--Watch Marty totally melt down in the booth by May 1.

--Will Thom come down on Daddy's side or decide to think for himself?

--Could Depodesta communicate with the 'Beer and Brat' fans or would there be a total disconnect. He'd have to change a whole culture.

--Would Depo and Hal become buddies that see things the same way?

--How would Gonzo feel about playing SS in Cincinnati now?

    --How will Javy like Miami?

--Would Depo embrace Cincinnati fashion and take satorial tips from C. Trent?

There are so many possibilities here!

As long as he stayed away from leather pants, then he should be good.

Uh yeah, this was the choice to make the past two failed selections and he has gotten virtually no interest from what I detected from this organization. I would like it, but the figureheads of ultimate opinions on the Reds would loathe him and thusly the majority of the fanbase would too.

Curious.. I recall it being more the other way around.. DePo wasn't interested in Cincinnati...

In my opinion, Paul DePodesta, like Billy Beane, achieved more fame from being in Moneyball than he possibly deserves. I have more faith in Krivsky who learned from Terry Ryan or anyone who has absorbed the philosophy of the Braves and can emulate the way John Schuerholz steers that franchise.
