The First Reds Player Who Was Younger Than You

I'm sure many of us grew up thinking that the Reds were larger-than-life figures. They were men who were playing the same game that we played in the backyard or the Little League field, but they played it better, and in front of more people, than we could possibly imagine. Then one day we noticed that they weren't that much different from us--they even had a player who was younger than us! (This was the first sign that I was getting older! )

Who was that player in your case? The first Reds player who was younger than me was Willie Greene.

(I don't feel too old yet--at least the Reds still have five players who are older than me: Jeff Conine, Mike Stanton, David Weathers, Ken Griffey Jr., and Scott Hatteberg.)
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

Wily Mo was really close, but I think that title goes to Ryan Wagner, who was born 3 months after me (and Cyclone) and made his debut in 2003.

I still have a hard time looking at guys like EE and reminding myself that I'm older than them.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I don't remember the first Reds player but I do remember the first MLB player. It was Jose Oquendo. He was younger than me by a month or so. Now I don't know if there is anyone left that is older than me since Julio Franco was released. I'm 44 so there are some that are close.

baseball-reference tells me it was Paul Konerko and Dennys Reyes in 1998, but both of them were just younger by a few months.

Gookie Dawkins was the first that I was really aware of being younger than me.

I'm pretty sure it was Homer Bailey. I'm 23 and he's, what, 21?

I had to do the same thing, albeit much further back!

Manny Sarmiento, a year and a half younger than me, made his debut in 1976 at the age of 20; Soto did the same thing the next year, again at 20.

The first "contemporary" of mine would have been Harry Spillman, who the record says is about five months older than me.

The last Red my age was Ted Power when he played for the Reds in 1991 when he was 36.

Dennis Eckersley was the last ML player older than me (2 months) and he announced his retirement on my 44th birthday. Ouch!
