    Griffey To Boston??

There is a potential deal to be made here, but the price could be high.

The Reds. Sure, Ken Griffey Jr. would look nice in that No. 5 hole, but he is also signed for next year ($12.5 million) and has had lots of injury problems. Still, Cincinnati is always looking to move money and might have some interest in the cost-controlled Coco Crisp [stats], as well as prospects.

The Reds also have bullpen help to move in David Weathers, but canít the Sox do better?
I'd hate for the Reds to deal Junior.. but a move to Boston might get him a ring. A line-up of Ortiz, Ramirez, Drew, Junior.. yikes!

I take Coco Crisp, Kason Gabbard, Wily Mo Pena, and Kyle Jackson for Ken Griffey Jr. and David Weathers

I'm guessing the Red Sox have just about zero interest in Jr. He can't play CF or RF in Fenway. LF, DH and 1B are taken.

    Bucholtz is pretty untouchable.

I'm not too excited about Gabbard, but he and Crisp would be a decent return for Junior.

Crisp does not interest me in the least.

Coupled with a young pitcher, he's about what you could expect in return for Griffey.

He's been dinged up quite a bit the past two seasons, but his 2004 and 2005 seasons showed great promise, and been on fire for the past six weeks (he finally healed). Plus he's only 27.

Crisp with a pitcher for Junior.

I want nothing to do with WMP...dude hasn't hit a thing this season either...

Exactly. Boston absolutely has no need for Junior. No way would they even make an offer for him, much less consider giving up their top pitching prospect for him.

    Crisp's OPS by month:

    April: .612
    May: .611
    June: .817
    July: .908

And by all accounts his defense been superb.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I think Crisp + prospect for Griffey would be an ideal trade. It'd make the Reds younger and better defensively and give them a prospect to add for the future. That's exactly the deal they should target. I just don't think Boston would have any real interest in Griffey.

Which is why I don't see them trading him mid-season unless they're getting someone back who can play CF in his place. The only way Griffey (or Dunn) to Boston would make sense is if Ortiz is hurt worse than they're letting on or they're trying to trade Manny again. As things stand, they could clearly use another bat, but their options for a position to upgrade are really limited.

What they really need is for J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo to hit. Crisp, as noted, is turning himself around.

I imagine the Sox would pull the trigger on an impact SS or CF, but who's trading one of those? Perhaps they could snag Brian Roberts if he hits the market and push Pedroia to SS, but my guess is Boston's main target will be RH setup men.

David Weathers for Brandon Moss and Jed Lowrie?
