Freel is a disease caught by managers of all kinds. He just looks good when he hustles, even if he's always out at first.

On the road trip he is 3-29 (.103), scoring 6 runs, walking once and striking out 6 times.

In the last ten games, he's 8-42 (.190), scoring 8 runs, no walks and 8 strikeouts.

    This is a leadoff hitter?

I prefer to look at a guys career rather than the last ten games but that's just me I guess.

I could just as easily say "this is analysis?"
School's out. What did you expect?

POSTGAME: Will have more after I transcribe, but Freel was unreal. He seemed more relieved than happy. When talking about he season so far, he said it was pathetic, horrendous and that he... well, what he said was that he, well, let's just say it rhymes with "clucking duck."

Regardless, it was another wonderful game and more than anyone I want the streak to continue. I do find it funny that when Adam Dunn goes 3-29 and strikes out a lot, many want to cut off his head, but when Freel has similar statistics followed by a good game, many want to call out those who point out his defencies. Double standard? No doubt.

Freel should try and bunt for some base hits tonight.

    Courtesy of C. Trent.

Just FYI, Adam Dunn is actually on the field right now. Wearing a Reds hat. But maybe he was traded to the Longhorns, though, because he's wearing a Texas T-shirt.

I'll be going tonight if the weather's ok.

Shame no Ross. He's got 5 HR in my last 3 REDS games.

    On the lineup:

MacNarron insists in splitting Griff and Dunn with Phillips. It was and continues to be a bad idea.

I think I saw oneupper on TV.

He had to be the only Reds fan of the 10,000 who made it.

Hey. Just got back from the game. Actually quite a few REDS fans, just not a lot of fans overall. 10.000 no way. 5,000 more like it. i arrived late and parked real close to the stadium.

    A few impressions:

Jarred Burton was dealing. His FB hit 96 on the gun, but unlike the other pitchers (Coffey, Belisle, Benitez, who also got up to 94 or 95), you could hear a difference when the ball hit Javy's glove. A real heavy thud.

Weathers was weathered. He was toiling out there. He needs a night off.

Keppinger is the new Denorfia, high stockings and all. He has the advantage that his manager actually likes him. Looks solid at the plate, too.

Jeff Conine is loved in South Florida. Biggest ovation of the night.

Two called shots in the game: I called Hopper's RBI single to right. "He's gonna hit a grounder through THAT hole". My daughter called Freel's HR. She looked up and saw Freel had 2 HRs in the season. "He could hit a home run" she announced. Didn't give me time to say how Freel was a banjo hitter.

REDs win! Made me forget Bases Loaded no outs 3-4-5 up...wow! Didn't think we'd live that one down.

Oneupper -- You saved me some typing. Also was one of the 5K in attendance tonight in Souh Florida (which included about 2K Reds fans). I haven't seen that few people at a big league game I attended since some of the old Cleveland Stadium days. Conine's appearance registered the highest decimal level of the evening. OTOH, nice to buy a cheap Fish Tank $12 ticket and end up behind the plate with rows of seats to speare for the final 6 innings. Burton was dealing, Weathers gutted it out and Coffey seemed to get lucky. I almost forgot the old days of the messed up sightlines of shared MLB/NFL parks

The most pleasant surprise of the night was that the weather was pretty comfortable after just smoking during the daytime. The air wasn't stuffy. Must have been 60% humidity instead of the usual 80%.

How fun it must be to be a Marlin and everywhere you look is a reminder that you are nomads in a football stadium. Dolphin Stadium, Dolphin Stadium signs reminding you that you are in Dolphin Stadium, all the retired Dolphin names stretching from foul pole to foul pole. Convenient in and out right off the turnpike which was nice, but absolutely no character and absolutely nothing in the area surrounding the stadium other than endless parking for 70K Dolphin fans eight times a year...
