Besides, that's 45. Should I make it 50?
I'm not necessarily a rap fan, but I will say that this list would most definitely have to include either California Love or Changes, both by Tupac Shakur. They are probably the two greatest and two most memorable songs by the most influential rapper in music history.
Mr. Jones by the Counting Crows may deserve a mention too.
The Lost Decade Average Season: 74-88
2014-22 Average Season: 71-91
If I recall correctly, Alice Cooper called Pet Sounds one of his favorites.
Meanwhile, I have to throw some love out for Layla

Has anybody said Witchita Lineman?

I'd say George Gershwin needs to be included in any list that starts with 1900. Rhapsody in Blue?
I also submit these for discussion:
Frank Sinatra - either "Come Fly With Me" or "I've Got The World On A String"
Ella Fitzgerald - "They Can't Take That Away From Me"
Vince Guaraldi - "Linus and Lucy", Vince's entire collection is pure genius, but that song is in the fabric of American history.
All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

Gershwin is represented with Summertime, from Porgy and Bess. As to Foster, My Old Kentucky Home?
What about Patsy Cline?
Loretta Lynn?
Dolly Parton?
George Jones?
The Rolling Stones?
I can't live without hearing "I'm Stranded" by the Saints at least once per week.
"We're a Winner" by Curtis Mayfield was my unofficial 1999 Reds fight song. Didn't matter if they were down ten runs in the ninth, my fiance would always have the record on the turntable with the needle hanging over that track.
Any songs that can be sung by me and my friends at a bar is always at the top of my list "Satellite of Love" by Lou Reed, and "Ex-Lion Tamer" by Wire always elicit the drunken zombie choruses of 2 a.m. I absolutely LOVE drinking and singing with friends. Nobody really does it anymore unless it's karaoke.
Speaking of Karaoke, my old stand by is "He Stopped Loving Her Today". I sang that one at a bar in Lihue Kuai'i on my 26th birthday, and did it so well that the locals bought me shot after shot of Jim Beam. Now I hate bourbon.
I pretty much have song for every occasion.

I once won that record from old WSAI back in the day - I had to call in and say "Go Ahead and Pull the Plug" - it was right around the where they were faking like they were going to change to country shortly after WUBE had gone country. Scared the daylights out of the Top 40 crowd!
