Big drawback on Chris Dickerson is he has struck out 127 times this season in 358 ab's between AA and AAA and only produced 9 home runs.

Yep. He strikes out a ton.

Also walks a ton and plays GREAT defense though.

Congrats on hitting for the cycle.

Well, it was not Dayton's night tonight. They got an RBI groundout by Carson Kainer in the 9th to avoid the shutout, but still lost 4-1.

    Stubbs 0-4, 3K
    Turner 1-3, 2B, BB
    Francisco 0-4, 3K
    Phipps 0-3, R, BB, K
    Heisey 0-4, K
    Parker 0-3, BB
    Kainer 1-4, RBI, K
    Rodriguez 1-4, 2K
    Cozart 0-3, K

    Smit 4IP, 4R, 1ER, 3BB, 1K
    Donaldson 4IP, 3H, 1K

Kerry Wood struck out two and gave up one hit in one inning for those interested.

If Dickerson sticks in the majors, it'll most likely be as a 4th outfielder patrolling CF as an injury replacement or late-inning defensive substitution. In that case, I'm more worried about his defense and ability to take a quality AB in a pinch hitting role than I am his power numbers.

Though, if he can take his .750-.800 OPS north with him, he might have a shot of making it somewhere as an everyday CF.

I think his numbers are bad enough to start switching roles. He needs to be ,ved to the pen IMO. Hopefully you would see a Pelland like improvement.

Had his arm checked which showed no structrual damage just tendanitis. Believes he came back to fast the first time and will probably come back around the first of Augest.

yes, i don't see Dickerson as a long term plans for the Reds...more like a Hopper....occasional start and late Def replacement at best

I've seen Dickerson hit --my guess is about 50 times....I've never seen a guy more overmatched. He looked like he had no business in AA let alone AAA. Maybe i saw him at a bad time, but i was shocked he even made it out of AA.

As for Alex Smith. It's clear he has arm troubles. All you have to do is look at his overall stats. He needs to either be shut down for the rest of the year or put in the bullpen. You can't go from 14-16 K per 9 to what his current ratio is now without having some type of really bad arm problem (an adjustment to a new league would not skew his stats that much).

One advantage with Dickerson is that he actually offers the ability to play an above average CF making him a useful back-up as he can help in late inning situations.

He has hit well in AAA this season, so if he can keep his OPS in the .740-.750 range, he can be a valuable 4th OF'der, and I don't think that's really unlikely. He probably wouldn't do this right away, but given a couple years, he would be a way more useful player than guys like Hopper, Wise, Taylor, etc.

I'm a little uncomfortable with Dumatrait as a starter in the bigs because he doesn't miss bats and has unreliable control. I really think he's pretty fringe as a starter unless he can get some more velocity or become best friends with Bobby Livingston.

I'd actually initially place him as a reliever replacement for the (hopefully soon-departed) Mike Stanton and push Jon Coutlangus forward in the Unofficial Bullpen Pecking Order.
