    Tatum at AA

Catcher Craig Tatum is hitting .288 at AA in over 100 at bats. He hit very well at High A ball. He is reputedly an excellent defensive catcher. For those who have seen him, or who know about him, is he a prospect?

I don't know much on him, but he was drafted in the 3rd round(78th overall) in '04, so I'm guessing they had some "prospect expectations" for him.

    Re: Tatum at AA

The knock against Tatum has always been his offense. He has also been accused of having an attitude problem, but I don't know of any reliable sources saying such. However, Dan O'Brien's people seemed to think enough of Tatum to draft him in the third round. Anyway, it seems he has great defense, limited speed, doesn't walk much, strikes out a bit, and decent power. He's your typical catching prospect, and personally, I think his career can be similar to or better than Jason LaRue's.

Miguel Perez has been doing well in Sarasota. If you're wondering why he's in A+ as opposed to AA or AAA, my guess is that the Reds think more highly of Craig Tatum and think Chad Moeller has a better chance of helping the team in the near future. I'd also guess that Miguel Perez will go to the Nationals as a minor league free agent after the year.

I read your words, but if you look at his stats, he seems more-than-recovered from his injury, and since he already went through Sarasota years ago, I'm speculating that he's being kept in there to maximize his playing time.

That seems to be a common theme across MLB.

I batted .344 with a .447 OBP last year in HS, my sophomore year. I catch, do I qualify?

Your OBP seems a bit too high. Try knocking that down a bit and striking out more, and I think you got yourself a deal.

I think if Perez is healthy he should be put up to AAA rest of year to see if he is ready for Big Show.
