It was just the newspapers and the evening news, but as close as wall-to-wall coverage as you can get. This was also the year of the NYC blackout, which I'm sure will get some play as it happened sometime in July (it may have already, I haven't seen the last episode). It was also a blistering hot summer, one of the hottest I remember in my youth.
Where did you grow up? 20 miles north sounds like the White Plains area.

Anyway - I watched the first episode and not the rest. I'm reading the book and didn't want the two to overlap. I was 8 at the time and I don't remember much about the Son of Sam stuff, but I do remember the Yankees of that year quite well. I still remember that Yankees Red Sox game at Fenway where Reggie and Billy had the blowup like it was yesterday.

I have watched a few shows and enjoy it. The actors playing Billy Martin, Yogi Berra and especially Thurman Munson look so much like the real people it scary!!

I was wondering though has anyone seen Sparky Lyle or heard him mentioned in the show??? He wrote "The Bronx Zoo" which was about the 1977 Yankee season and all the turmoil they went thru. Kinda funny we havent heard mention of him in the show.

    Yep

Lyle did win the Cy Young award in 1977 but to my knowledge he hasnt been mentioned in the show.

That's the way I see it also. If it wasn't about baseball it would be unwatchable.

I'm watching it as well. They have tried real hard to be as accurate as possible with the clothing but they forgot one big part that bugs me. Reggie Jackson wore Ray Ban style fames. In the show the actor playing Reggie wears frames like my 65 year old dad wears.:thumbdown I now it's a little thing, but gets to me. I find myself thinking about it throughout the show.

One of the first posts in this thread said the actor playing Billy Martin looked to tall. On-line it said Billy was 5'11" 165 lbs.

I've heard a lot of cynicism toward the show, and a bit in this thread too.

You won't hear it from me. Love the show. Love it. Love it.

Of course, I'd watch Torturro in a Burger King commercial on continuous loop. The guy is unbelievably compelling. I actually like the back story of Son-of-sam, the riots, etc. It fits.
