    Prospect Name Pronunciations

Hopefully these two guys will have a great future with the Reds, and if/when they make it to the big club, I want to know how their name is pronounced.

    1. Joey Votto - Is it like Voetoe or Vaughto?

    2. Johnny Cueto - Is it Queto or something else?

I know there may be a few more but I was unsure about these 2 guys. Thanks in advance for the help.

    I always thought it was:

    Vah-toe for Joey
    Kwee-toe for Johnny

    Pretty much how it looks.

    Vuh Lay Ka

Depending on the PA, they usually accent the "Lay" syllable.

One which has gotten me is Denis Phipps. I had always assumed since he's Dominican, that his first name was pronounced "Denn-ee", but it's actually how it looks, as in Dennis the Menace.

I always thought it was Do Mah Trey

    I'll add:

Philip Valiquette (Pheh-leep Val-i-ket) Atleast that is what I think it is, someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Thanks for the help guys. It's not that big a deal, but it is nice to know the right way to pronounce a player's name.

    Angel Cabrera

    Angel or An-Hel?

    I alway pronounced

Dumatrait, Doo-Ma-Trey (After I learned the ending T was silent)
    Votto - Vah-Toe
    Valiquette - Val-I(Like "It" w/o the T)-Kett
    Cueto - Cue-etto (I think Welsh calls him Cue-Way-Toe)
Phipps looks more like Denise than Dennis.
Valaika - Vuh-Lay-Ka ( I used to pronounce it Val-I-Ki (Ki like Guy))

    An-hell...ironically.

on second thought when pronounced correctly it sounds a bit more like:

    Un-hell.

I've learned more in 2 years of watching Dora than 2 years of high school Spanish.
