    newark airport - taxi advice

This Friday I will be landing at the Newark airport, and I just heard that it might not be easy to get a taxi there. Is that really true? I find it hard to believe that a major airport doesn't have lots of taxi's stopping by, but I've only been there once before.

I'm not particularly thrilled with renting a car, since I'll only be out there for the day and only need to go about 15 miles each way.

Any locals or frequent travelors to Newark who have had taxi issues before? Thanks

Red in Chicago you need to get a car service. I can't stress this enough. Cabs in NJ are largely unregulated and fall into the category of strawberry scented death machines.

Whenever I fly into Newark I always get a car service to take me into the city. You can find one on the web pretty easy. It costs a few bucks more but you won't be sorry.

Just google "car service" "Newark airport"

212-777-7777 or 212-888-8888 will get you what you need.

Also there is a 212-666-6666 but I never drive with the Devil.

R-in-C are you heading to the Big City or just in NJ?

Thanks. My boss actually suggested the same thing. I thought she was crazy. I mean, how could an airport not have reliable taxi service???

last time I took a cab at the newark airport it didn't have seatbelts and I pretty sure the cabby was drunk.

Does this apply only to Newark? Or is it that way at Laguardia as well?

    (I'm flying to Laguardia tomorrow.)

I've never had any trouble at LaGuardia. That's where I flew into last week. It's the airport I normally use in the New York area.

Thanks. This will be my first trip to NYC as an adult ... and my first time flying to or thru ANY of the New York airports.

Alfred and I will be at Yankee Stadium on Thursday (vs ChiSox). Alfred is wearing his ChiSox cap, and I am wearing my Reds cap. And maybe my RedsZone T-shirt.

Never had an issue with a taxi from newark. but my advice is to take one from the taxi stand, not the dirt merchants who hang out by the baggage claim and offer to help you with your bags.
